Pi Oak case

Oak case. I have started to fit my Pi into a Oak case with a perspex top. The case will sit on a shelf in my workshop and has a Logitech diNovo Wireless keyboard and mouse connected. There are no mounting holes in the PCB so I have cut slots into wooden mounts and screwed them to the base. The wooden mount still needs the front section cut out once I have the PSU connector fitted.

Video is via HDMI with stereo sound fed from the analogue jack to an amp. I have cut a section of cable insulation off the HDMI cable to get the cable to bend neatly to a hole cut in the base.

I will change out the countersunk screws on the mount to round heads and also fit a right angled PSU connector when they arrive from ebay/amazon.

Finished off my case today. Have loaded xbmc and it runs fine off my PC and my NAS drive.

I have also installed the xbmc app on my Android mobile.

Sound works through HDMI and the analogue cable and internet/network is through a wired connection.
I have tried to hide the cables as much as possible so all cables go out through a large hole in the base of the case.


I have a 32GB SD card and all I need to do now is find a way of getting all my MP3 onto it from my Windows PC so I don't have to stream music?

Is there any way to install an internet browser on xbmc?

Very attractive. Like a cross between steampunk and taxidermy. Needs a small stuffed penguin for the Linux connection.

This is the most original case I've seen so far! Love it!

I've been toying with a similar idea, however I wanted to somehow suspend my RasPi in a glass case similar to Euclid in the movie "Pi".

My Raspberry Pi final setup.
Somehow it has found it's way out of my workshop into the cabinet of my workstation. All wires are hidden and go out the back of the case and out the back of the workstation.
It now shares a hard wired keyboard, mouse and monitor with my Windows 7 PC, Laptop and Internet server.
They are all connected via a 4 port KVM switch that is controlled by a switch on the front of my PC.

I have had to add power to the KVM via one the 4 KVM USB ports as the Pi does not have enough power to drive the KVMs USB hub when my PC or Laptop is off. I plan to mod one of the USB ports on the Pi to give the extra power needed, then I can remove the extra PSU.

Where do you get the acrylic(?) top from? I've seen a few display domes and so on, though they look a bit too tall...

I got the case from Ebay. Just search for "perspex display case".

I had my one from another project and could do with it being a bit bigger.

Would be nice to have one large enough to fit a 7" monitor.

Hey Brett, I LOVE that case! I'm looking on eBay searching for "perspex display case" but I don't see your version of the oak base and acrylic top. Did you make or purchase the oak bottom from somewhere else?

I made the Oak base from scraps of Oak I had left over from something else.
