OK, I decided to order also one of the design with a closed bottom and the ticker walls.
Received it yesterday... this is much much better......
The thicker walls are great, very solid feel. When the case is closed, you almost can't see the hairline... The notches are working fine in holding the case together.
Now the only thing I need is a Pi....
Pictures...

Re: Custom case designs
Why the air holes in the top? Have you ever seen a mobile phone with air holes? Do you expect the Pi to generate so much heat that it will overheat in a closed case? Or do you just like the looks of them?

It saves some material, indeed some air circulation, possible wire to gpio, see the pcb...
You can always glue some plastic behind it

Re: Custom case designs
It's a reference to the ZX81's go-faster stripes, isn't it.
The ZX81 didn't have air slots and needed them.
The Raspberry Pi has them and doesn't need them.

Re: Custom case designs
Added another 2 versions on Shapeways.. http://www.shapeways.com/shops/picase
Both have an open top with room to place a transparent perspex sheet of 50x80x2mm
One has a closed bottom, the other is open.
Currently I don't have gotten a delivery date yet for a Pi...
Perhaps if someone in the Netherlands has received it, he/she can contact me, so we can see if everything fits.

Re: Custom case designs
This is brilliant, I live within 3 miles of a guy who makes his own 3d printers, maybe I could see how much he would charge to print these for us?
Richard Sum creator of the sumpod.com I shall be speaking too, see what price wise.

Re: Custom case designs
great, let me know how it goes.
A sumpod looks interesting, especially the dual extruder..
Can you ask if you can use that to print support material for certain areas ?

Re: Custom case designs
well still experimenting with combinations...
Luckily for everyone still more and more cases seem to appear.
Some are looking absolutely beautifull in those nice cad programs...
so just for fun ..

Re: Custom case designs
Some more variations, now using a better board design…
In stead of normal feet, I now use feet which fits Lego bricks…
More practical than screw hole, I can screw a small lego plate against a wall and attach/detach the case when I want..

Re: Custom case designs
Not very happy with the access to the IO connector from the top. Its not very practical. So I changed the opening to the side in the bottom half of the case.
Made a small grid which you can cut out with an exacto knife, so there is room for the flatcable coming out of the case.
The nice thing about openscad is that the design is drawn using a program language.
So by just altering a parameter I just got this beautifull fish shape.

Looks great. Is there anyone in Cambridge UK who HAS a raspi who would like me to make them a free case? I have an underutilised 3dTouch printer… :)

Re: Custom case designs
Seems someone in the USA had a Raspberry Pi and a 3D printer and made my Thingiverse case....
I will adapt the Thingiverse model with the new measurements and update it to version 12 and post seperate stl files for top and bottom cases this evening.

Re: Custom case designs
Check out the Pi Plate: This is a round version and consists of a base plate and an easy on/off twist-lock cover. Ideal for users who need frequent access to the GPIO Headers (auxiliary 26 pins)
