Start by being specific: screen version (there are over 12 Kedei versions matching 480x320 SPI TFT LCD). Then, about your rpi model and distribution.

Then you want to have a look at
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/tree/ ... ging/fbtft
https://github.com/saper-2/rpi-spi-lcd35-kedei (abandonned project; better use NOTRO)
http://multicode111.blogspot.fr/2011/03 ... m-ali.html

Armbian forums which helped me:
https://kaspars.net/blog/linux/spi-disp ... ge-pi-zero
https://forum.armbian.com/topic/4656-or ... uchscreen/
http://www.instructables.com/id/Orange- ... PI-ST7735/

http://www.orangepi.org/orangepibbsen/f ... d&tid=2848
https://kaspars.net/blog/linux/spi-disp ... ge-pi-zero
https://github.com/FREEWING-JP/OrangePi ... lex_35_lcd
http://www.orangepi.org/orangepibbsen/f ... d&tid=2904

One of them explain that LCD prior to version 5 may be tricky; but versions 5 and + are 100% certified to be able to work with any pi (orange or raspberry or banana or any other fruit of your choice ) ... with any official Linux image.

Versions 1 to 3 may work only with Kedei images; forgot about versions 4 ...

Versions 1 to 4 may work with official images; but few people have tested, and I never found any public witness about it. But it's probably technically possible.

Image1).I got my display the Raspberry PI 3 Model B 3.5″inch TFT LCD V6.3 2016/11/1.
2).I installed the ” RASPBIAN STRETCH WITH DESKTOP” on my new Raspberry Pi 3 Model B following all the easy instructions on it from here
3).I downloaded the driver “LCD_show_v6_1_3” for my display from here:
4).I copied the file “LCD_show_v6_1_3.tar.gz” into directory “/home/pi” of the RASPBIAN STRETCH WITH DESKTOP
5).I executed the command tar xzvf LCD*.tar.gzand all file were decompressed, it takes few minutes.
6). I executed the command cd LCD_show_v6_1_3 then I execute the command “./LCD35_v” and the magic begins to work!!
7). The raspberry Pi will reboot, it does not take “SECONDS” , it takes few MINUTES to reboot. it looks like nothing happen but it is happening!!
8). My display is working with my R-Pi3b module.
9). To change from R-pi display to HDMI I executed the command “cd LCD_show_v6_1_3″ then I executed the command ” ./LCD_hdmi”
“ATTENTION” in the instructions they wrote “./LCD_dhmi” it is a misspelled command that easily can drive you CRAZY.

10).To change from “HDMI to R-pi display”: it is just to reinstall the driver again, I need to execute the point 5) through the point 7) again.
this is a bit annoying to change from “R-pi display to HDMI” or “HDMI to R-pi display”, if you want to give a public presentation or if you make projects involving the HDMI connector at the same time using a extended display or cloned display or projecting video or images PNG.
This is going to be disadvantaged for new customers and for the business!! #I feel like I want to return my display now#.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Raspber ... sstype=600

another disadvantaged: I can not use double display.i can not use HDMI connector with my secondary display at the same time.
this can make bigger sales if the creator gives a driver that can solve the problem or show how to enable the HDMI for extended display or double display mode activated function.

or what do you think about it?
help us to have a very good driver or an application to be able to work with 2 displays!

i've got a problem with this touch screen when i try to execute a Qt application. The output is:

Code: Select all

libEGL warning: DRI2: failed to authenticate
Unable to find an X11 visual which matches EGL config 125
Could not initialize OpenGL
If I execute the app in a monitor screen with hdmi, it's launched properly. I'm using "pi music box" image, over raspbian wheezy. Someone has any idea?

thank you

I have reinstalled a Kedei v6.2 last week using
but this should also work:
http://kedei.net/raspberry/v6_1/rpi_35_ ... _15_18.rar

No need to download/install the LCD-Show thing; it's completely useless. Just write the image on the uSD, and boot it.

Not sure if I am using a pi2 or 3, but it does not matter, both should be the same. So if the Osoyoo does not work, take the Kedei. Osoyoo works for me. The Kedei seems to include a more recent kernel.

I don't use official Raspbian image with Kedei LCDs, because KeDei images are certified to work, and ... do work out of the box.

LCD_show_v6_1_3.tar.gz can not work on raspbian images; it's impossible. Your steps are doomed to fail.

Raspbian and Kedei are very similar, but, completely uncompatible; Kedei heavily patches the kernel, and assumes many system libs are fixed versions; they disable many features (like I2C), and prevent installation of some tools. LCD-show does not have the guts to work on official Raspbian. Many things break with Kedei images (several wrapers, modules and overlays are disabled.

It's possible to get Kedei LCDs working with an official raspbian, using the tutorials I gave on march 31st: some Kedei LCDs can work on Orange Pis, using the Notro method. So, this Notro method *MUST* succeed on rpi, with any official Raspbian image. But you have to spend a few hours on it. And Notro won't work with all KeDei, because they have at least 3 or 4 different pinouts (the hardware version is not written to decorate the back face; they are completely different down to the pinout).

If you got it work nevertheless, maybe they have fixed their LCD-show tool, and maybe recent versions can do it now; but 3 years ago, it was no-go.

It is probably possible to use the two display outputs at the same time using the Notro method.

High end consumers, and business rarely buy SPI LCDs, and, won't buy KeDei because they are not reliable. There are many better SPI monitors by other manufacturers which work much better ... for the same price. I have found SPI LCDs on Ali at the same price (around 8€) which work fine on OrangePis via Notro. For sure they can work as well on rPi !!! And, as big advantage, they are provided with pinout, letting you know how to configure Notro ... while Kedei never published any pinout, and geeks had to reverse engineer them to find how to drive them manually. KeDei can be used with the Notro method, but it's poorly documented (some people provide working commands on forums, but, without telling their hardware version; if they are using an LCD v3, it won't work for you when you have a v6).

I never used that method; they say they are using a v6.2, and you say you are using also a 6.2, so, their tuto should work.

Since they provide a pinout, you can use the Notro method. Install the Notro repo, follow the tutorial, and adjust the boot options according to your pinout.

SPI is uncompatible with DRI; forget it. DRI is hardware acceleration; SPI is 100% software video driver. There may be workarounds, but the Pis are probably too weaks to run them in real time; especially Raspberries; some versions of Oranges have huge CPUs (2 to 4 times better than a Raspberry at the same price), and may be able to sort it out in real time; but those powerfull boards are costy (there are oranges up to 45€). DRI emulation may involve very heavy software like
https://www.x.org/archive/X11R7.5/doc/m ... est.1.html
(curious people may also want to read about Xephyr, but it's offtopic for Panchon ).

I have only v6.0.

I also succeeded to create X Windows session using

Code: Select all

FRAMEBUFFER=/dev/fb1 startx

Got a V6.3 working (quite by accident)

Hardware and Software as follows:

Kedei SPI TFT Version 6.3 2018/4/9
on Raspberry 3b
Raspberry Zero

Running Raspbian Stretch (2018-06-27-raspbian-stretch.img updated with apt-get update , apt-get uograde)

I installed LCD_show_V6_1_3 from en.kedei.net/raspberry/raspberry.html as "officially" described (download, untar, backup, install).

I tried a lot of things with various results ( do not remember the exact steps )
* White screen (right after the install - ssh working)
* Showing up only the berries - but working in all other aspects (ssh and VNC) (by setting GL driver to the "Fake KMS" option )
* Showing boot text but hanging on "loading bootscreen" - though it had been disabled on raspi-config with ssh working ( by disabling the GL driver)
* Showing boot text and completely freeze at some point
* And finally completely frozen with black screen

At that point trying to restore the system to use the HDMI output( did not want to re install ) i took the sd out, connected to my laptop and copied a config.txt from another raspberry I am using over the existing one. I thought doing that and by disabling the SPI interface on that the HDMI might be restored...

Connected HDMI and booted it up.

The TFT and touch interface works suddenly..... :? :?

Install official driver
Set GL Driver to the Fake KMS option
Disable the SPI on config.txt (YES DO THAT)

I am using only the following on my config.txt

Code: Select all

Not sure if all are needed

Tomorrow I will post some pics If time permits!

I do realize this is pretty old thread , so do not crucify me.

I am NOT interested in plugging my version 6.3 to RPi, I am looking for somebody who FINISHED reverse engineering the actual interface (schematic) between hardware "SPI" connector and the LCD controller so I can code the module using C++.

All KeDei "resources" are void of description of such interface.
The interface description is the missing link between standard SPI and LCD controller READ / WRITE and COMMAND / DATA .
The only solid data is for LCD hardware RESET signal, everything else is just guessing game.

This is as close as I can come up with - from this thread.
Q 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 - HEX - Action
0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 0x00 - Reset
0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 - 0x01 - Release Reset
0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 - 0x11 - Prepare command
0 0 0 1 1 0 1 1 - 0x1B - Store command
0 0 0 1 1 0 0 1 - 0x15 - Prepare data
0 0 0 1 1 1 1 1 - 0x1F - Store data

Perhaps somebody can come up with correlation of these terms with W/R and C/D ?

I have "moved" to this thread after frustrating attempts to copy form it. It is not my intend to "double post".
