Hi!
I've been working on a new HDMI compatible LCD screen for a while having capacitive touch and power from USB.
It's been made with Raspberry Pi (and similar platforms) in mind, but I've never been very active in these forums, so I thought I'd ask and see if there is any interest from this group in particular. Hope it doesn't come off as spam, seeing as there is an official screen available. This one is a bit more expensive, but also better quality IMO.
It's a 5.9" 1080p Sharp screen having a custom capacitive touch panel with Synaptics touch chip. Really great colors compared to many other screens I've seen, since it's been made for a cell-phone.
I've not really seen something similar to this, even though Toshiba who makes the HDMI to DSI converter has had that chip out on the market for a while.
Hoping to launch a Kickstarter for it in the near future, (~1 week) that's the main reason for this post!

Re: New 5.9" HDMI screen. Any interest?
There's always a need for new display panels.
The current offer doesn't cover all the needs - for example there is no bright (>= 400 nits), cheap (<70-90$), capacitive touchscreens available at the moment. Adafruit has a few bright ones but without a touchscreen. The ones that do have touchscreen are not bright enough.
What's the brightness of the display?

Yes! That is the LCD panel. No, it's set to launch Monday or Tuesday 17/18. There is also a smaller version being kickstarted, a 4.8" 720p, but delivery is a couple of months later.

The Big one has come the furthest as you can tell,
bot use a Toshiba chip for converting from HDMI to DSI,
VESA 50 mounting holes, power is 600mA on full backlight, but you can choose to turn it down if you want to be within spec.
Backlight is set by USB CDC (serial). The device enumerates as a HID multi touch device.
Synaptics S3202 for touch.

Re: New 5.9" HDMI screen. Any interest?
Very interested in the 4.8" 720 model. What is its aspect ratio and PPI?
My current 5" 16:10 (8:5) 800*480 touchscreen just doesn't have the resolution I would like / need.
1280*720 is the sweet spot but I can't find anything smaller than 10" to get it.
5.9" is too large for me, but we'll see.
I'm going to keep an eye on this project as I am very interested.

Aspect ratio on both is 16:9 (really 9:16 since it's portrait mode)
Small Screen: 307 ppi
Big Screen: 376 ppi
Yes, I'll be sure to post here when it goes live:)

As this is the first time I'm supporting a campaign let me ask a question: how to get two?

Those are some great LCDs.
I pledged for a 5.9" one to use in my quadcopter remote control. Seems to be bright and compact enough.

If you were lucky enough to get one of the early birds, but you also want one of the other early birds, it should be possible to go back and adjust your pledge to add that. If not, double your pledge amount manually and write a note about what you want!

Quad copter control would be awesome! I've thought of that several times, but never gotten around to it. Make a Reddit post when you finish it!

These sticks have Hall-sensors, both sticks are 3-axis sticks with pushbuttons on top. Note the small sticks on the side

Wow, that looks great. I really like the carbon finish. What system is that?aBUGSworstnightmare wrote:Some inspiration for your buildjeanleflambeur wrote:Those are some great LCDs.

My current design uses one 3-axis stick and a motorized linear pot for the throttle stick. Here's an early video of it: https://jeanleflambeur.wordpress.com/20 ... t-hw-test/
The FPV screen is my phone connected to the raspberry pi inside the remote through 5.8ghz wifi. I do have latency issues so I want to redesign it to include the screen in the RC.
But enough off topic
Can't wait for the manga screen to arrive. They were shipping in August, right?

I'm sure you know wifibroadcast for live FPV video using RPI?
That's what I will be using one of the Manga screens for. The second one will be used for a Ground Control Station, using RPI as a host again (Zero is enough here; WBC required RPi3).
In the video it is analog video on the ground station (using USB frame grabber)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bn4qsIh ... e=youtu.be
The Manga will be used in portrait for just HUD and status signals, attached to my TX.

I do know of wifibroadcast. I have a very similar system included in my code base using 2 TPLink WN722 cards receivers for diversity.I'm sure you know wifibroadcast for live FPV video using RPI?
Manga screens are great indeed for ground stations with almost double the brightness of the official raspberry pi lcd.
