For those interested, test release 4 of the Raspberry Pi Fedora Remix is available from
http://scotland.proximity.on.ca/raspber ... 17/latest/

Changes in this release:
The image will fit a 2GB card, as it is now 1.852G in size
(4GB or larger card is recommended to allow plenty of space for data/extra software/swap). The download is 665MB.

Image resize/swap space creation is now more reliable (note, however, that it will take several minutes after the firstboot setup before the resize/swap takes effect - the system may be used during this time).
Chris Tyler thinks they have probably nailed the last of the significant firstboot/resize/swap issues.
Next week they will start performance tests with armv6 rebuilds (sfp & hfp) and continue work on image size reduction and boot cut down.

What we really need is for the Raspi patches to be built into the mainline kernel version so that yum update can keep it up to date.

I hate the concept of installing old kernel versions on top of what is essentially a "bleeding-edge" distribution.
We have available either 3.1.9+ or 3.2.23+ when the mainline kernel for F17 is at 3.5.0+ It just seems so.... "wrong".

I've just tried this image, back to hanging after the USB mouse & keyboard. The previous test image got past this, so seems to have gone backwards. Using a SanDisk Ultra 8gb.

Hello I have just started with my Pi and while browsing distro's I noticed this one, fedora remix.
There is an installer with a link on the site. What is not clear to a new user like myself is this.
Is this installer run natively on the PI or is the operation done on a desktop PC like my raspbian image ?

The test image 4 link at the top?
Linux:
sudo zcat raspberrypi-fedora-remix-17-test-004.img.gz >/dev/yoursdcard
after you download .img.gz file
or
extract .gz and
sudo dd if=raspberrypi-fedora-remix-17-test-004.img of=/dev/yoursdcard

Windows:
unzip .img.gz file with 7zip and use Win32DiskImager mentioned on raspberrypi.org/download

I'm assuming this is still armel, and not armhf, correct? Either way, i will still be trying this on my Pi, I have always been a fan of fedora

I installed this August 4th release of Fedora Remix 17 today. It does not work as well as the earlier release. Few errors seen during boot up and then while trying to run yum update in terminal mode keyboard and mouse ceased to work at some stage. Tried running yum update within Fedora Remix 14 in the hope that system will upgrade to remix 17 but that seem to be going back to old Remix 14 repositories. Gam

Chris Tyler is aware of this problem and Test image 5 is coming up that should address some of these issues

For those who are stuck in this loop, disconnecting the power to the Pi and restarting will allow you to get pass this loop, as the location change is saved from the first attempt.

Managed to get to a login screen, what is the login ?

The login is the “user name” and the “ password” that you set on graphical installer screen.

Another tip is to remember to tick the NTP box during installation if you are connected via a lan cable to set time and date .

Hi there,
I tried fedora remix with a 16gb scandisk SD 4, but some problems. It can't resize. On the verbose report says something like

warning error cannot write pid file

Also it's not possible to run:

 sudo yum update 

is it?
sadly I missing some real support and clear info on all this project about. I tried with fedora because raspbian gives me a lot problems. At least with fedora the system goes, I mean the display performance works. I tried raspbian rather than debian itself because has it said it was a improved ver for raspberry one version of it. So my shortcut try felt down. Now fedora. My next try will be with pupy. Is there a version for raspberry I heard. As pupy it's known as a linux OS made for running plenty on 256 RAM, it should go OK on R-pi.
