Pidora 2014 gpu mem

Sat Jul 05, 2014 8:19 pm

Hi,

I've installed Pidora 2014 on my Raspberry Pi B with 512MB and after boot it only shows 372MB available ram. I've set gpu_mem to 16 but it doesn't make any difference.

[root@rpi ~]# free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 372 80 291 0 9 43
-/+ buffers/cache: 28 343
Swap: 511 0 511

My /boot/config.txt looks like that:

dtv_mode=0
sdtv_aspect=1
overscan_left=15
overscan_right=15
overscan_top=15
overscan_bottom=15
hdmi_drive=1
start_file=start_x.elf
fixup_file=fixup_x.elf
gpu_mem=16
arm_freq=1000
core_freq=500
sdram_frewq=500
over_voltage=6

Also I've noticed it a bit slower than when I was running raspbian :(

No, gpu_mem=32 doesn't work it still shows 372MB available after reboot

I would take a look at the output of vcgencmd get_config to check that the firmware is reading the options correctly, at least. Then if 'vcgencmd get_mem gpu ' conflicts with that... that would be strange.

Hmm that is strange

[root@rpi ~]# vcgencmd get_mem gpu
gpu=128M

[root@rpi ~]# grep gpu /boot/config.txt
gpu_mem=16

:? Don't have my pi to check if that should work, but that seems strange.

My overclocking settings are there but gpu_mem is not.

[root@rpi ~]# vcgencmd get_config int
arm_freq=1000
core_freq=500
over_voltage=6
sdtv_aspect=1
hdmi_drive=1
overscan_left=15
overscan_right=15
overscan_top=15
overscan_bottom=15
program_serial_random=1
config_hdmi_boost=2
emmc_pll_core=1
hdmi_force_cec_address=65535
temp_limit=85
force_pwm_open=1
pause_burst_frames=1
avoid_fix_ts=1

What if you remove this part?
start_file=start_x.elf
fixup_file=fixup_x.elf

start_x.elf is used for the camera and some other additional 'media stuff' which requires more RAM, so I figured it might be forcing a minimum requirement.
