"We're in the money"

Mon Sep 20, 2021 4:50 pm

https://www.cityam.com/raspberry-pi-rai ... ding-round

"The charitable foundation behind the Raspberry Pi, a bestselling, British personal computer, has closed a $45m (£33m) funding round.

Eben Upton, CEO of Raspberry Pi, said the company is “pleased to welcome Lansdowne Partners and The Ezrah Charitable Trust as our first outside shareholders to help us achieve the next steps in our growth,” he added, saying that the funds will enable the company “to scale to meet future demand.”

The capital raised today will accelerate the company’s product development roadmap and marketing of high-performance, low-cost computers for the consumer and industrial sectors, according to a company statement.

With the sale of stakes to Lansdowne Partners and the Ezrah Charitable Trust the operation is reportedly valued at around $500m."

Whoo-hoo. They changed their "Raspberry Pi maker plans £300m London Listing" heading but maybe it is time to start saving up to buy shares ?

As is often the case, the article conflates the charitable RPF with its RPT commercial arm - Is there an official press release or similar which clarifies what it all means ? I couldn't find anything on the blog.

I'm not aware of any press release or blog post. The Foundation obviously owns the Trading arm, but like you it's a bit unclear to me how it all works.

Good spot. Surprised it's not already been mentioned.

That "Raspberry Pi maker plans £300m London Listing" appears to be gaining traction even though City AM retracted that. It's what caught my eye and was surprised no one else had spotted it -

From that fuller coverage, an earlier version of the City AM story, it appears the source is the Telegraph. Further digging suggests City AM conflated what was written in the Telegraph today with earlier Telegraph speculation of an IPO.

The cityAM piece is a bit mangled, but the original Telegraph article (published both in today's dead tree format and online) is more correct.

It doesn't add much we did not know except clarifying "The trading arm of the Raspberry Pi Foundation has offloaded stakes ..." - RPT.

Another UK reference. In this case the journalist does actually know a little bit about the hardware...
