Yes, It will be nice to know more about the CPU, I cannot find the CPU model number. The document says the system will prevent SOC's temperature go above 85C degree, but when will it start throttle? at 70C or even earlier? Before the complaints come in, that's a preliminary datasheet, a much more detailed ones is on its way.

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion
Is there still VC4 style (dual core) VPU? Does the ARM boot first or still the VPU?
Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion
incredible.
i mean, incredible.
Is there any information on power consumption? (i mean, over the adaptor specs..)
how much is this little monster consuming, compared with old PIs?

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion
What model number? BCM2711 is the SoC, the CPUs are Cortex-A72. Both of those are specified in the datasheet.bertlea wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 7:56 amYes, It will be nice to know more about the CPU, I cannot find the CPU model number. Unlike the Pi 3B+, there's no soft-throttle limit at 70. CPU throttling starts at 80C.
The VC4 VPU is still there (and boots first). Bootcode.bin has moved to an on-board EEPROM so when we release Ethernet/USB mass-storage bootmodes, it'll be a bootloader upgrade and not a bootrom (new chip) upgrade.fanoush wrote: Is there still VC4 style (dual core) VPU? Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion
Don't understand why they're taking it in this direction, I've never once thought the rPi needs more power. I'd rather they focused on better interfacing; analogue inputs, selection of pu resistors, power buses, protection circuits, level shifters, chip sockets etc; stuff that makes it easier to hook up motors and sensors.
For example I use a Custard Pi 5a which has zeners to protect from voltage overloads and resistors so you can plug LEDs and 5V sensors directly into it; great product but stuff like that should be built in, imo.
An official 10" touchscreen would be good too.

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion
Thank you @jdb! I just found out the process is based on 28nm process too from the web. Nice to know it is not having soft-throttle as the P3B+.

so, 06-20.img still 32bit or 64bit?

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion
complete nonsense that 3A power supply thing via USB-C! They must finally install a power jack like Arduinos for standard 7-12V power adapters!
In addition, there is always a missing button to start and stop!
I also do not understand why they stick to their puny form factor and not finally grow for a second connector strip with additional i2c, UART, ADC, DAC, digital GPIOs and tons of 3V3 + 5V + GND!

Power a 2nd Pi4 via the 1st Pi4 USB port and the 2nd one is running OTG gadget mode stuff?Could a Pi 4 host 4 USB Pi 4's?![]()
Yes, yes, yes, yes. No idea what you mean.
Might need BIG power supply?
Old VC5 stuff mentions Vulkan and OpenCL.

They will be interesting, but I think we are going to need more info

OpenGL is probably going to be very usable now

So much more to learn now.

Seems to be conflicting information out there.
Can it run 2x4k at the same time, or can it only run 1x4k or 2x1080p?

Thanks, random internet commentator, for your enlightened input on what we got "wrong".
Also, perhaps you should have read the documentation on the new peripheral alt settings: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... minary.pdf

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion
I see thanks. So I guess VPU still sets up the memory at startup then. How did you solve the 1GB memory limitation. The VPU sits on different SoC with different memory controller? There are no longer those 2 caching bits as part of memory address which reduced it to 1GB previously?

What do you mean not available? I see the option to order it from the United Kingdom sites?
1 * Raspberry Pi Zero W, 1 * Raspberry Pi 2, 1 * Raspberry Pi 3, 1 * Raspberry Pi 3B+, 1 * Raspberry Pi 4B

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion
The VPU and a few legacy bus masters can only address the first 1GB of RAM. The VPU caching still works as before. The new bus master controllers/ARM/ethernet/PCIe have a 35-bit address bus.fanoush wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 8:43 amI see thanks. So I guess VPU still sets up the memory at startup then. Re: Inside Pi 4
Good news!
Have already been "subliminally" waiting for such a new Pi4; now that it materialised I know I always wanted it.
Thanks to the Raspberry Pi staff and their helpers for delivering another amazing little but powerful machine – and of course to James and colleagues for all the patience to answer our many questions.

Thank you! !!
Debian Buster for the Pi 4 is it 64bit ?
Is it possible to use the Pi 4 as usb OTG ?
I need to emulate USB stick.

May I ask whether RPI 4 supports things such as 10 bit video decoding, Dolby Vision and Atmos? Thx.

DISABLE WIFI/Bluetooth - Or Better still is there going to be a version with no WIFI/BT Chip ??
Is there a WIF/BlueTooth Hardware switch ?
I know you can disable this with software, but when thats done is the chip OFF ??

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion
Buster will release with a 32-bit userland, as backwards compatibility for all previous models is important. The Pi 4 kernel uses LPAE but eventually we'll ship a 64-bit kernel.
The USB-C port has USB2.0 OTG on it - device mode works fine with the dwc2 driver.
HEVC hardware decode supports 4kp60, 10-bit. Audio output is pretty much unchanged, but the HDMI audio channels now support 8x192kHz bitrates.cheungie wrote: May I ask whether RPI supports things such as 10 bit video decoding, Dolby Vision and Atmos? Thx.

Excellent work everyone involved in this latest release. This is an amazing achievement.
Now to order a microHDMI cable! Should have read the docs before clicking "buy"

The new RPi4 is just awesome! Most of the VC API stuff is there, I have been testing it for the past couple of hours I got it in my hands and it seems to be largely compatible.
