Difference between Pi 1 & Pi 2

So I received my 2nd Pi today (don't worry - going to good home) - and I noticed a few differences.
Pi 1 has an RJ45 connector made by Bothhand (LB)
Pi 2 has an RJ45 connector made by HanRun
Both seem to hace magnetics

Pi 1 has no CE sticker
Pi 2 has a CE sticker

Just above the SD card:
Pi 1 has 1208 printed
Pi 2 has 1213 printed

Pi 1 SoC has engraved text on top
Pi 2 Soc has flat white text on top

Overall, I'd say the components on Pi 2 are all a little straighter than Pi 1.

Most importantly.... they both boot up!!!

P.S. Pi 2 really is going to a good home!!

Yes, 1 from Farnell, 1 from RS.

The fact that one has the CE stamp and one does not would lead me to believe that one came from the initial 10K batch the RPF had made and the other came from the serial production of one of the two distributors

i believe the one with no CE mark must be from the first 2K, since as far as i know my Pi is from the first 10K (but not the first 2K) and it has the CE marking

Yes, that's what I've figured. Pi 1 (without the CE sticker) arrived about 4 weeks ago.

I think these are probably manufacturing year and week number, i.e. 2012 week 8 and 2012 week 13.

Just to be pedantic the marking is actually on the RAM (stacked on top of the SoC), not the SoC itself.

Since hearing about the Pi about a year ago, I've always thought it would be fun to document the Raspberry Pi's changes in development, board revisions and such.

We see this kind of documented history with devices like the BBC Micro, Speccy and all, so why not do it for the Pi too? Perhaps at the wiki?

Thanks for pointing out the differences, I too noticed changes in components and such when comparing my board to a couple of friends' boards last Thursday.

1215 looks to be a date stamp put onto the silkscreen by the PCB manufacturer. It's means the PCB was made in the 15th week of 2012

The seven-segment "1218" has moved to the bottom, in the vicinity of the magjack, along with the "SL" and "94V-0" marks. I wonder what that ugly roman "CE" is for, and why it is now so important...

There were two CE type marks on the photos. The stylistic one is the CE logo and relates to the certification process - no idea what the other one in roman letters stands for.

Hmmm... so we can't make any assertions that differing distributor requirements are driving the differences then. Can anyone (from RPF) comment on how many factories are building them and for who?

Both manufacturers switched from batch to serial production some time ago. They are probably receiving deliveries once or twice a week.
