[SOLVED] changing the root fs location

Thu Jul 12, 2012 11:35 am

I've been using this for a few days now and I like it but I have a problem
I have a 2.5" drive attached 2 partitions [1 linux and 1 swap]
I've rysnced the linux partition off the sd card onto the hd,
changed the /etc/fstab [on the hd] to reflect the new location of swap and root
changed the /boot/cmdline.txt file to point root @
/dev/sda1
when I reboot - raspbian boots as far as finding my usb hub then stops - and never gets any further.

what have I missed ?

I'm not sure if I understand this correctly. When does it stop? At kernel loading or maybe somewhere in Debian boot process? If it's the former, it probably stops because of "rootwait" kernel option meaning that kernel can not see your HDD and is waiting for it to be visible. Can you confirm this?

I'm happy now - it's all working

for the gen on this

create a linux and swap partition on the HD
dd the linux partition from the SD to the HD
e2fsck the HD linux partition
rezisefs the HD linux partition
mkswap the HD swap partition
mount he HD linux partition and edit /etc/fstab so as to point root and swap to the correct places
edit /boot/cmdline.txt to point to the new root partition

reboot after doing sacrifice ...
