vbetool would be great I tried to compile it myself but failed.

vbetool - run real-mode video BIOS code to alter hardware state
The Pi does not have a video BIOS, especially not one containing x86 real-mode code. Many of the operations that program offers are, however, available on the Pi using either "fbset" or "/opt/vc/bin/tvservice".
Re: Packages from debian you want to see in raspbian reposit
This is very important to me. OpenOffice or LibreOffice would be fantastic. I had to switch back to the "old" wheezy because of this.jhasler wrote:Please add Libreoffice.
Re: Packages from debian you want to see in raspbian reposit
Unfortunately the version of libreoffice currently in wheezy doesn't get on with our autobuilders, is generally very fragile and takes days to build. The result is I don't see any reasonable way of getting it in raspbian.
The version in experimental apparently fixes these issues but currently has testsuite problems on armhf.

Re: Packages from debian you want to see in raspbian reposit
This is really sad - my second RasPi (a Lapdock solution) freezes after a few minutes using the graphical interface and I hoped that this would be better or "fixed" in Raspbian. The first one is stationary and doesn't freeze but I need as 2nd one a mobile RasPi.plugwash wrote:The result is I don't see any reasonable way of getting it in raspbian.

Re: Packages from debian you want to see in raspbian reposit
Dear developers.
Thank you for your efforts in Raspbian.
Could you pls invoke the DVB USB option IT913X in the kernel, and add the module dvb-usb-it913x and firmwares dvb-usb-it913x-01.fw and dvb-usb-it913x-02.fw in the lib/firmware directory.
That would really help me in my quest to build a home TV server.

Re: Packages from debian you want to see in raspbian reposit
We now have a libreoffice package in raspbian based on the version from debian experimental.
Anyone fancy testing if it actually works?

Re: Packages from debian you want to see in raspbian reposit
What an amazing coincidence. My daughter has been asking me to get open office on the pi for a couple of months. Have tried a couple of times but with no luck. Tried to do this afternoon ad has worked first time, relatively smooth as well. Cant comment on the operation of the program but opened Writer and Impress and both were fine. I'm sure when I loaded this page 30 mins ago that the above post wasn't here, and wasn't expecting any change when I tried to install. Thank you very much indeed.

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install libreoffice
Sure, it's a heavyweight package, and it's not at all zippy, but with the turbo overclock on, it felt quite usable.
Tried Write and Calc, and both seemed fine with small documents.
Thanks @plugwash for getting this working.
Re: Packages from debian you want to see in raspbian reposit
Awesome, thanks plugwash and anyone else who helped out with this.
Re: Packages from debian you want to see in raspbian reposit
I didn't realize Libreoffice was actually in the archive: thought you meant you had it a private archive somewhere. Downloading now.
Re: Packages from debian you want to see in raspbian reposit
Libreoffice works for some brief tests, and it's usably fast with the Pi in 1GHz turbo mode. Thanks.

Some brief tests with (really!) large files showed the same results.jhasler wrote:Libreoffice works for some brief tests, and it's usably fast with the Pi in 1GHz turbo mode. Thanks.

Locate is already there and seems to install fine to me. If you are having problems installing it please post the complete error.
