How have you got a valid account if you didn’t purchase it?

Double check your account details in the run script. Otherwise I don’t know.

Thanks a lot for this! It seems to have worked flawlessly for me, RPI4 4Gig, latest Buster... I should add you made two boys of 6 and 7, who missed the mobs in the educational Minecraft Pi, terribly excited! ;-)
Btw, I added a file called minecraftjavaed.desktop in ~/.local/share/applications with this content:

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Minecraft Java Ed
GenericName=Vanilla Minecraft 12.2 Java Edition
Exec=/home/pi/Minecraft/runMC1_12_2_OptifineF4.sh
Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/minecraft-pi.png
Terminal=false
Categories=Game;ActionGame;AdventureGame;RolePlaying;
NoDisplay=false
StartupNotify=true
It brings up a menu entry in the "Games" category. Clicking it tries your patience a bit (no feedback first), but after a while "Mojang" comes up, and after another while MC's start menu! Have fun, and if somebody knows how to enhance this launcher, let me know here. Thanks!

How to setup Full Minecraft 1.12.2 (with Optifine) on Raspberry Pi3 or Pi4 (using Buster)

Edit: 10/11/2019 Updated to Optifine HD U F4, added video tutorial.

Please note :
Do this at your own risk.
If you have any doubts use a spare SD card.
Pi3: The OpenGL drivers may not work with all screens. If unsure make sure you can ssh onto the Pi from another machine to turn back off.
Pi3: Most likely to have success with OpenGL drivers if using Raspberry Pi 3 with heatsink, genuine 5.1 volt 2.5 amp power supply with heavy duty 2 core power cable, 1080p screen.
Pi4: I'm using the official 5.1V 3.0A power supply, with the Pi4 in an open sided case with small fan.

This tutorial was tested using Raspbian Buster with Desktop - release date 2019-09-26

Video tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huFGL_9adaQ

1 If you need to update an existing version use

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade
If you get any questions or prompts during raspbian update press ‘q’ ‘enter’

2 Pi3: In Menu\Preferences\Raspberry Pi Configuration :

Performance Tab - set GPU Memory to 64Mb
Reboot if necessary

3 Pi3: Enable ‘GL Driver’ from a terminal window

Code: Select all

sudo raspi-config
This will start the config utility. Select 'Advanced Options', then select 'GL Driver', then select 'GL (Fake KMS)', then select 'Yes' to reboot and enable the driver.

4 Download and run setupMC1 script
This will take a few minutes, including installing Oracle java 8.

Code: Select all

mkdir ~/Minecraft && cd ~/Minecraft && wget https://www.dropbox.com/s/4irv50ow07yxn65/setupMC1.sh && chmod +x setupMC1.sh && ./setupMC1.sh
5 Run Minecraft launcher :

Code: Select all

cd ~/Minecraft && /opt/jdk/jdk1.8.0_211/bin/java -jar Minecraft.jar
Login with Minecraft email and password
Click 'edit profile' and select use release - 'release 1.12.2', then 'save profile'
Click Play to install game
You will then receive an error
Close launcher

6 Install Optifine

Code: Select all

cd ~/Minecraft && /opt/jdk/jdk1.8.0_211/bin/java -jar OptiFine_1.12.2_HD_U_F4.jar
Click install.

7 Run Minecraft launcher

Code: Select all

cd ~/Minecraft && /opt/jdk/jdk1.8.0_211/bin/java -jar Minecraft.jar
Select the OptiFine profile and click play. The launcher will crash.

8 Run setupMC2 script

Code: Select all

cd ~/Minecraft && ./setupMC2.sh
9 Edit runMC1_12_2_OptifineE3.sh

Code: Select all

leafpad runMC1_12_2_OptifineF4.sh
or

Code: Select all

mousepad runMC1_12_2_OptifineF4.sh
Update MINECRAFT_LOGIN, MINECRAFT_USERNAME and MINECRAFT_PASSWORD to your own (may need "" for special characters)

10 Start Minecraft from terminal window

Code: Select all

cd ~/Minecraft
./runMC1_12_2_OptifineF4.sh
Change options in Minecraft to reduce render chunks to 2, this should avoid running out of memory.
Turn everything down to low in the video settings (and turn on things like fast math)
Suggest running in the default sized window for best performance.

Hopefully Minecraft should run :P

I don't think the Pi3 with only 1GB would cope, Pi4 2GB minimum required.

If anyone else has a problem when running with the DSI display, here's how I fixed it:

  1. create and open in your favorite text editor:

    Code: Select all

    ~/Minecraft/xrandr
  2. paste the following text and save:

    Code: Select all

    #!/bin/bash

    echo "Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 800 x 480, maximum 7680 x 7680"
    echo "DSI-1 connected primary 800x480+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm"
    echo "    800x480    60.05*+"

  3. execute in a terminal:

    Code: Select all

    chmod +x ~/Minecraft/xrandr
  4. open in your favorite text editor

    Code: Select all

    ~/Minecraft/runMC1_12_2_OptifineF4.sh
  5. go to the line where it says

    Code: Select all

    /opt/jdk/jdk1.8.0_211/bin/java \
  6. modify the line so it looks like this and save:

    Code: Select all

    PATH=./:$PATH /opt/jdk/jdk1.8.0_211/bin/java

LWJGL's xrandr support is absolutely nuts. They just parse the output of `xrandr -q` like a mad man, and they don't even support all the possible outputs. In particular, xrandr outputs "FIXED_MODE 60.05*+" as the modeline for the DSI display, but LWJGL expects modelines to look something like "123x456 78.9*+". When it finds the "FIXED_MODE", it doesn't recognize that as a mode and thus it outputs "No modes available". So we just build our own xrandr script which just outputs a static text, but with "800x480" instead of "FIXED_MODE". Then, to get Minecraft to run our own xrandr instead of the system default, we overwrite the PATH variable given to Minecraft so ~/Minecraft/xrandr is preferred.

Sorry, only works with Mojang accounts, blame Microsoft.

Please vote for a Pi port of the latest Minecraft Java launcher:

Hello! I am sorry, if this section is not appropriate for me question (I just don't know where to post it). I am new to Python and Raspberry PI also. I am trying now to import scripts from Minecraft education and start them with Raspberry PI. Is that possible? For example there are such libraries like mc and world and I have issues with them. Here is the error: "Traceback (most recent call last):
File "blocks.py", line 1, in <module>
from mc import world, blocks, player
ImportError: cannot import name 'world' from 'mc' (/usr/local/lib/python3.8/dist-packages/mc/__init__.py)". What is the best place to find answer for this question and how to resolve this issue?

Nice tutorial on how to install minecraft java, it runs really well on my pi4. I have downloaded 1 map called the toy story 2 adventure map for my minecraft java and I really enjoyed it. Here's the map: www.mediafire.com/file/3q2wrgny65wad7s/ ... 1.zip/file.

First create a new world and then go here for a tutorial on how to put the map on minecraft java: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tutorials/Map_downloads.

If you can't find the .minecraft folder, click VIEW, and SHOW HIDDEN, or hit CTRL-H.

Hope you enjoy the map, Thanks!

hey if you want to squeeze every fps possible try this:

do: sudo nano /boot/config.txt and write at the bottom:
gpu_mem=516
over_voltage_sdram_c=3
over_voltage_sdram_i=3
over_voltage_sdram_p=4
sdram_schmoo=0x02000020
sdram_freq=3200
kernel=zImage
core_freq=525
arm_freq=2000
gpu_freq=650
over_voltage=6
:D hope this helps

I get 60 fps on hypixel with 6 chunks and optifine on my rpi4 8gb ram
I love that smell of hot metal after overclocking too much :twisted:
