This package now or should be in future releases of Raspberry Pi OS but if it is not:
Install “chrome widevine”
Code: Select all
sudo apt update sudo apt full-upgrade sudo apt install libwidevinecdm0
Then go to https://open.spotify.com/?pwa=1 login and you will be able to play Spotify Web Player! Have fun.
Spotify Progressive Web App Install:
- You should be able to also use chromiums progressive web app feature for Spotify
This should give you a prompt within the url bar to install Spotify as a progressive web app (PWA).
This makes Spotify play in its own windowed mode as if it’s a full desktop app (ie. Running in chromium) and also reduces RAM and CPU footprint of chrome in this mode.

- Use the desktop short cut that is added for Spotify and copy it to “startup” folder if you wish to have the app auto start at boot up:
If your running a Pi 2 or older it’s highly recommended you make your window as small as possible or minimize it and use Spotify connect to prevent audio pause/stuttering issues.
PSS tested and works on raspberry pi 2B (stock clock) with official pi touch screen with desktop. Turning it into portable desktop media player
