Warning Icons

Sun Dec 31, 2017 2:56 am

Hi I've noticed that there are three icons that show up when there's something wrong with the pi: either the temperature (there are 2) or the lightning. I've noticed that these icons have showed up on multiple OS's and even when NOOBS starts up just in the corner. Are these notifications built into the OS's, the BIOS or a separate program in the computer? I'm just curious ;)

There is no BIOS. However, there is firmware that loads from the SD card (or other mass storage device). It's likely those warning icons are there, as the firmware would be common to different OSes.

This is correct, the firmware running on the VIdeoCore4 GPU is what puts up those icons; using the dispmanx API for those who are interested.
