Re: STICKY: Introduce yourself!
New guy here. Just trying to learn what I need to learn what I need with each step. Trying to take it all on with knowledge alone just leaves me sitting still. So I'm attempting a learn as you go. So far so good. But I'm going to rename this learn as you go process to "stumble your way to success". It hasn't been as smooth sailing as I hoped. Hoping that being apart of a community will make the falls in this journey a little less painful.

Re: STICKY: Introduce yourself!
From a 370 to a Pi 4. That was quite a step! ;+) They sure are fun. I had to drill 107 holes in my case and add a cpu sink/fan to keep it cool enough. And it still overheats running the stress test, clocked at 1800. I might have to deisgn a custom open loop water cooling system for it. Actually, I have better things to do.
I did find this the other day -

Re: STICKY: Introduce yourself!
With Hercules and MVS 3.8, you can emulate the S/370 on a Raspberry. If you re-compile Hercules with the gcc optimisation flags on an RPi you'll have a machine that's faster than the mainframe I was using in 1981 when I started.
Languages using left-hand whitespace for syntax are ridiculous

While I do not regret the past, I have no wish to repeat it - especially the part with punch cards.

Hi all,
I'm Paul from MA (USA). I'm new to the Raspberry Pi scene but was very impressed from what I saw at a local robotics demonstration. At the moment I'm using a few Pi3s to setup some PiHoles for myself and some relatives. Moving forward I'm hoping to setup a magic mirror, a retro gaming station and hopefully get into some robotics. It's been a while since I've used linux so I'm very rusty but looking forward to the challenge. I look forward to talking to you all more.

Re: STICKY: Introduce yourself!
Welcome. I have been running a Pi-Hole for a while now and really like the heck out of it. It takes a little fiddling to get the block, black and white lists exactly how they need to be but it is very easy and well worth it. You can use an old low end RPi for the hole so don't think you need a 4 or even a 3. The 4 is fast enough to do most tasks for folks and I guess they could probably work as complete replacement for 95% or more of all computer users, since the vast majority just surf, stream, instaface, midriff and look for free torrents.pquinn777 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 4:06 amHi all,

I'm Andy! Been meaning to get myself a Pi for a while but been busy. Finally took the plunge a couple of months ago and enjoying exploring it with my Grandson. We're using Rasbian for a few things at the moment but also have a Retropie card to slot in for some old gaming.
Going to get a few more Raspberry Pi's as well. Thinking of using one for a web server or similar, maybe a home file server and another for some kind of digital signage in work.
As for me, I'm active in the C64 scene. I'm a gfx, sfx and code monkey for Cosine (http://www.cosine.org.uk) and Arkanix Labs (http://www.arkanixlabs.com). I also code in PureBasic and have done a few applications and demos.

Greetings from Italy!
I'm Adriano. I'm quite new of this linux device, but I love its compactness and easiness to use for little daily home projects.
I designed a little desk for experiments, using an old PC power supply. It take a very long time but now it is finished. Here it is.

That looks great. I have been itching to setup something like as well. Good job!

I am Kevington, a denizen of Australia. Background is Physics, Elec Eng, IT, amateur radio. Ham radio homebrewer and kit assembler. Now like to mess around with micro computers. Just set up my Pi 4B. Lots of fun for an old man. Greetings to all.

Re: STICKY: Introduce yourself!
I am Alex, from Moscow, Russian Federation. I want to make a test web server from Raspberry Pi 4 4GB, because it’s cheaper than buying a standard server.
Re: STICKY: Introduce yourself!
Hi to all, I too am new to all this Rpi stuff. I have a pretty decent techie background given that I never did it for a living, but I did live in Silicon Valley for 40+ years.
My goal is to build a music player/server. All the 3 & 4 letter acronyms for the components and software pieces are most confusing, e.g. I never heard the word "distro" before but of course I understand what the distribution of a software release is - uggg.
Anyway....
Does anyone know how to reach Luigi Kella who made a post to this forum in Sept 2019? I ask cuz he is in Eugene, OR and so am I. Clicking on his "contact" does not work.

Re: STICKY: Introduce yourself!
I somehow missed posting an introduction!
My name is Benjamin and I am a fairly new Pi enthusiast. I have a degree in electronics and picked up a Pi4B to use as a desktop replacement. I have been feverishly attempting to set this up to replace an aging netbook (only 2gigs of RAM; Microsoft seems intent on killing off the usefullness of a machine with only 2Gigs of RAM) I use outside in the heat and humidity of the SouthEast US.
I am also and Android enthusiast, and used to be quite active when Google+ was still a thing.
Hope to get to know some of y'all and make some new friends here.

Helli, I am Phil. I am very new to Raspberry Pi, so have a great deal to learn. Any help would be gratefully received.
My current interest is in using a MCP4725 DAC with LCD.

Re: STICKY: Introduce yourself!
I suppose I really should get around to introducing myself. I'm Mark with a pretty new Pi 4 4GB with a Pi 4 1GB on the way. I'm now retired after about ten years in the employment / welfare sector. Before that I spent about 25 years in the IT industry as a systems and network admin with a variety of OS's - IBM MVS/JES2, OpenVMS on VAX and Alpha, various breeds of UNIX, various distros of Linux (mostly Slackware which is my favourite as well as Red Hat. A bit of SuSe and Debian snuck in there too. As a system admin my programming expertise" extends to assembler and C "hacks" - why spend five minutes fixing a problem when you can spend a few hours automating and solution in case it happens again...
Now that we're retired we constantly wonder how the hell we had time to work...
I'm also a Radio Amateur (HAM) - VK3KW and VK3ZMF.
The current Pi is used as a web server ( http://jandmf.com, a "set top box" with a Pi TV hat and a movie / video / whatever player via VLC. I also keep messing things up because I like to "tinker". The new Pi 4, when it arrives, will be my "tinker" box as well as my HAM radio box for logging and digital modes. Once I get that working I'll probably need another Pi as a "tinker" box...
Anyway, have a quick look at my web site - it's a wordpress site and has a bit of Pi stuff as well as some of our travel stuff and a bit of HAM radio stuff.
Anyway, that's more than enough from me.
Cheers,
Mark F...

I came, I saw, I forgot what I was doing, retraced my steps and got distracted on my way back.
I have no idea what's going on and now I have to pee.

Hello all, I'm interested in Raspberry Pi mainly to do with Azure IoT Edge and BLE.
I continue to be amazed with how versatile the device really is.

Hi all, I'm Judith Fertig from Kansas City, US.
I'm python, java, c++, php developer. Python is my best.
I'm also a chef. I own a blog about BBQ:
I am new to the pi but interested as everything on it is or seems to be open source and adjustable.
Thank you for making me a part of this great community,
