systemd[820]: gpgconf: error running '/usr/lib/gnupg/scdaemon': probably not installed

Wed Nov 10, 2021 1:06 pm

running Raspberry Pi OS Lite, Release date: October 30th 2021
Linux raspberrypi 5.10.63-v7+ #1459 SMP Wed Oct 6 16:41:10 BST 2021 armv7l GNU/Linux

whenever I use putty, I get the error:

Code: Select all

gpgconf: error running '/usr/lib/gnupg/scdaemon': probably not installed
Duckduck go says: create /home/pi/.gnupg/gpg-agent.conf (if not exist), so I ran:

Code: Select all

echo "disable-scdaemon" | sudo tee /home/pi/.gnupg/gpg-agent.conf
the error is now gone (apart from some entries when the system reboots).

Is this the correct approach to eliminate this error.

I also noticed this error...thanks for posting this solution. However, I found that it didn't eliminate it for my "regular" user (not pi, which I never use, so didn't test it with this).

Since gpg seems so bent on running scdaemon, I did the following:

Code: Select all

sudo cat > /usr/lib/gnupg/scdaemon <<EOF
#!/bin/bash
exit 0
EOF
sudo chmod 755 /usr/lib/gnupg/scdaemon
Unquestionably a hack, and there may be side effects yet to be discovered, but no more "error running scdaemon" messages.

Thanks for sharing this.

Your solution looks like the better on (replacing my solution by yours). I still got a lot of messages because of the variaty of methods I use to access the system (my method only solved it for putty, not for other things like winscp, SSH)

Switching to your solution now.

I just ran into another problem, see viewtopic.php?t=323583.

If you have a similar problem, could you have a look? Thanks
