The Pi2 still cant play 1080p smoothly. I switched to 720p for now, which seems to work fine.
It's a pity tho that I have to replace my Raspberry Pi 2 because of such software changes :(
Keep a separate SD card with Kodi Leia on for playing the 1080p50/60 files?

Some addons I'm using do not support Leia anymore, that's why I upgraded in the first place.
Watching IPTV / Streaming services is also one of its main purpose, besides some smart home scripts which run in background.
I guess I have to upgrade to at least a Raspi3 then.

Can you try forcing the performance governor?

Code: Select all

echo performance | sudo tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor

Unfortunately that did not change a lot either.

Is it just me or does altering the CEC settings do nothing at all?

Whenever I leave my TV on the HDMI port the pi and soundbar is connected to, and try to, say, cast Spotify to my soundbar, the pi will wake from screensaver, turn on the TV and change input to itself. So I tried turning off the relevant CEC settings without luck, and now all the settings off except CEC it self. I have the "vc4 hotplug" setting turned on in /boot/config.txt

Also: the CEC settings will revert on reboot unless you change both CEC adapters (pi 4). However this is pointless as altering the settings does nothing to begin with apparently.

Can you confirm if disabling CEC completely stops the TV from switching to kodi?

Can you be more specific. I'm not clear what setting you mean.

This is what I mean by vc4 hotplug. You helped back on page 12/13 with some CEC fall outs due to soundbar/avr.

I will try disabling CEC completely when I'm home.

EDIT:
Turning CEC completely off did nothing - before I rebooted the pi. I turned off the TV, waited one extra minute for dim (2min+1min) and now I can cast Spotify to my soundbar without the TV turning on.

This is not really a solution for me though. I'd rather live with the bug than no CEC at all :(

EDIT2 (bonus info):
With CEC off in kodi, changing the soundbars input to the Pi, doesn't turn on the TV anymore (which is good).

v4l2 does include an extra memcpy in some cases
which means 1080p50/60 is just out of range on a Pi2.
I switched to a raspberry pi 3b+ just to enjoy 1080p videos again.
Unfortunately the 3b+ can’t handle it either, the playback still isn’t smooth at all.

What’s actually interesting is that the cpu usage is just about 30%.
Why am I getting such a low frame rate then?

Because neither the video decode nor memcpy are done by the arm cpu.

I can't use "pulseaudio" anymore. It is not available on audio output menu. Why?

PS: I need pulseaudio to be able to use my bluetooth speaker with kodi.

EDIT: I have been able to have pulseaudio by first entering ctrl+alt+F1 and then typing "kodi --pulse". This works. However, is there any way to have a clickable shortcut that enables pulseaudio? If i open up a terminal window and enter "kodi --pulse", it doesn't work. I have to first do ctrl+alt+F1 in order for the command to work.

Can you try editing:
/usr/share/applications/kodi.desktop

and change the three instances of "Exec=kodi" with "Exec=kodi --pulse" (plus the existing options)

Great. It may also work if you set "WANT_PULSE=1" as an env variable,
although without testing, I'm not sure where is best to be picked up by the desktop launcher, rather that an interactive shell.

Not familiar with environment variables or how to set them.
