Can't post anything

Wed Sep 21, 2022 7:56 pm

I am trying to post into the forum and I keep getting a message "The solution you have provided is incorrect" - I am using Firefox on W10, Safari & Firefox on MacOS Monterey - all do the same. I'm guessing that some kind of CAPTCHA was supposed to be displayed but isn't?

Ha, OK, I cannot create a thread. I shall endeavour to be more precise in future. I have a feeling somewhere there is an Orac voice... "That is better. Our relationship will be best served if your statements are free of ambiguity."

Again, wrong. You created this one. :)

Anyway, the solution incorrect error is misleading, all first posts have to be moderated, and depending on time or how busy mods are it could take a while to be approved.

I'm still waiting for Orac to "save the day" and bring them all back.

Well, the issue in the topic title is "Can't post anything" and clearly that is not the case, or there would be nothing for me to reply to!

You have also posted a query about your Internet access. viewtopic.php?t=340447

I'm confused. Many times I have seen posts here to the effect that "Can't post anything". But here I'm reading their posts. Something does not add up.

What is the actual problem they are having?

At a guess, they tried posting, but got the "The solution you have provided is incorrect" message.
So, being obstinate, they tried posting here, and got the same silly (and wrong) message.
If it had been me, the forum would now be awash with me posting "I'm irritated by all this - please explain!"

It would be helpful if there was a sticky saying something along the lines of "Just wait a bit for the mods to catch up - that message doesn't really mean what it says"
Or even better - change that message to something more informative.

They are impatient, and cannot wait for the moderation process.

as a moderator I do not have the power to change these messages, I wish I could.

I can post now. What a convoluted palaver. The code in the website that checks for the presence of the CAPTCHA needs removing, then the error message will go away and the original, more useful, error message "Your post will need to be checked by a moderator first." will probably appear. It is certainly something the moderators of the forum need to take up with the web developers.

another question, is that if the mods are reviewing the "first" post from every account, why are they even allowing threads like this one to begin?
cant they just approve the real question, and reject this thread?

All the mods are volunteers and are based in different time zones. Sometimes there may be several mods present, occasionally none (depending upon "the time" of the first post attempt) . "Race conditions" can happen depending upon whether an individual post or a group of posts are approved esp. if someone attempts a "first post" more than once and, of course, how many other "first posters" are trying to post.. There is also an anti-spam filter system which may introduce other delays/timing issues IJDK.

I tried to get the attention of the web Team.

Don't know "where" to post a bug report.

I have never myself seen a "I can't post", first post, But If I did my response would not immediately be to block the poster... bUt that is no guarantee I will let trough a spammer trying to trick me with this, as logically it would not be a FIRST POST!

I heard that the "problem" was inherent to the Captcha system we used until recently, it now replaced by another captcha system, and with that the cause for this misunderstanding has vanished.
