Getting Kodi to work - UK

Wed Feb 08, 2023 4:51 pm

I've got Kodi installed on a Pi3B running Bullseye, and whilst I can start it up, that seems to be about all I can do with it.

I've currently got the Pi connected to a monitor, but in due course, I'll plug it into my TV. I can access Kodi using Firefox from another computer.

I've tried a couple of different things, firstly setting up the weather service. I've select the Met Office, but that doesn't seem to give me any weather, and if I try to change it away from the default of London, I get a 403 error from a Met Office server.

Turning to TV/Radio streaming, I've selected the PVR, but all I get is "PVR manager is starting up: 0%" on the monitor and a revolving circle with "just a sec" in the browser, which never changes. It appears to have pre-configured "Tvheadend HTSP Client", but according to the event log, the server is unreachable. Is this the right client for the UK, and how do I change it if not.

TIA

Adrian

PVR requires a server on your network (which can be the original pi) that has a TV receiver card (e.g. a USB DVB dongle, or I2S DVB HAT) connected to an aerial. Do you have that? If not, PVR is not for you.

Kodi is a media player. You will need to have your own media (e.g. an a USB devive, or shared drive on you local network).
It doesn't not include content itself. (Although there are addons, like iPlayer that can be installed).

Thanks MaddyR and Dom.

I think that I might have misunderstood how Kodi works. My assumption was that it was some form of front end for the likes of iPlayer and ITVX. I wasn't looking for a PVR type device (I've already got one), but assumed (silly me) that Kodi's PVR was the tool for accessing online content (e.g. iPlayer).

I'll look into plugins for the services I want to use.

However, that doesn't explain why I can't get the weather to work.

As with a lot of open source, Kodi is reliant on volunteer effort to get things working, and to keep them working. I would guess that the Met Office have changed their systems in some way, and this has caused the problem in Kodi. It is also possible, of course, that there is a problem at the Met Office.

Thanks, that is an entirely fair comment.

It's probably just a storm in a teacup.
