ERROR: Partition does not have FAT file system
I'm trying to install Fedora on my Raspberry Pi Model B but every time I try to write to the disk it says Partition does not have FAT file system even though in the windows it says that the drive's partition is FAT32. Is there any way to fix this? I don't want to buy another SD Card. I reformatted the SD twice and even recreated the partition.
Re: ERROR: Partition does not have FAT file system
You'll probably get a more useful answer by trying one or more of the following:
- Asking on a fedora or fedora on Pi forum.
- Providing much more information aboiut exactly what you are doing when you see the failure
- Providing much more information about the software and hardware you're trying to do this on
Knowledge, skills, & experience have value. If you expect to profit from someone's you should expect to pay for them.
All advice given is based on my experience. it worked for me, it may not work for you.

Re: ERROR: Partition does not have FAT file system
Please be very specific about which image file you are trying to write exactly.Elliot King wrote: ↑Sat Mar 18, 2023 6:50 pmI'm trying to install Fedora on my Raspberry Pi Model B
Some Linux distributions like Fedora and Debian have the habit of putting up "aarch64 ISO files" on their websites that are NOT meant for the Pi, but for competing ARM boards. But their website does not make it very clear which file is for which board.
You may have more luck with the one labeled "Fedora 38: aarch64 raw image", if you have a Pi 3 or Pi 4. But that one is not going to work on the original Pi 1 Model B either.
Also note that Imager will only throw a "Partition does not have FAT file system" if the image has no FAT partition and you are trying to apply advanced settings. Applying custom settings to Fedora is not supported, and will not work even if you had the correct image, although then the error should not appear.
Re: ERROR: Partition does not have FAT file system
Last time I saw this the user was trying to overwrite their Windows boot disk...
Fortunately the error saved the day
(Personally I hate creating new sd-cards on one box with a very small SSD in it - I have to double check the card is selected EVERY TIME rather than trust the size).
