Central Coast NSW Australia?

Sun Apr 02, 2023 6:11 am

The Pacific Ocean is the centre of the world. Australia is the Pacific Island with the best beaches. The Central Coast is the best beaches with great coffee. Unfortunately all that pleasure has distracted us from making a local Pi.

There is a code club in a school but it is closed to everyone else. Nothing for adults that I can find. The nearest makers club is in some place way south of here, Sydney, plus it is on the other size of Sydney which is the equivalent of travelling from England to France.

In case someone is searching for this area, I will add some keywords.
Ettalong Beach
McMasters Beach
Ocean Beach :D
Umina beach

I am happy to bring a thermos of coffee when I find others with similar interest. I tested Meetup and some social media for six months and nothing happened. My next step after this post is to approach a Mens Shed as they have local meeting facilities with a stable base. The other "community" meeting places are are all restricted or commercial or women only.

I approached our local libraries and they ignored the opportunity to use their meeting rooms. There are cafes with minimum spends of $$.

Similar situation up here in Ipswich Qld.
Mens sheds are um, limited in scope, fix lawnmowers and a bit of furniture or talk Harley's.
Local RSL one is more interesting, maybe.

Went to the local Sunday market today for the first time in ages.
Very dead compared to years ago, local council killed off the car boot sales.
Old toys, records, clothes and plants are it.

Been wandering around craft shops, nothing made local, everything imported.
Craft supplies seem to have popped up everywhere, even the local LifeLine.

Been wondering if it can be online?
Online similar interest sheds?
As far as I know Core Electronics has the only meetup groups in Oz.

or talk Harley's
That would be a good project for a Pi. Automate your Harley so you can send it for a ride without you having to put up with the noise.

I am a member of an on-line tech group which meets via Skype, under the auspices of the Indooroopilly Hub, Brisbane - a community activity centre. The tech group meets on line on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

More details about the HUB can be found here: https://www.indrohub.org.au/

(Note, you may need to be a signed up member to join the tech-talk group)

I'm looking to get involved with tech and coding on the Central Coast of NSW, Australia. Are there any clubs or events I can join?

Hello Ruby
What type of coding? I am working on a Pi based irrigation system and Web sites. I recently sold a spare Pi 3B to a beginner in Umina Beach. If you are this end, we might start a Pi club.

I know a local high school has a code club but only for students. I posted because Sydney and Newcastle are a bit too far. There is a local Mens shed who do computer stuff. I may approach them about hosting something.

Have you found a local meetup yet?

Some high schools may have code clubs, although these are often geared toward students. It's worth checking with nearby schools to see if they have any community outreach programs. Check this article https://a-team.global/blog/must-have-iot-developer-skills/ for more information!
