LibreOffice latest version

Sun Jun 04, 2023 11:05 pm

Hi,

Currently have Raspberry Pi OS Legacy with desktop (buster) on Raspberry Pi 1 B with LibreOffice 6.1.5.2, and I'm experiencing bugs.
I need at least version 7.2.4 of LibreOffice. Where can I find the latest release compiled for ARM / Raspberry Pi?

Regards

That's the problem with running the Legacy system. The software is old.

If you install Bullseye you get 7.0.4. There may be a later version in the Bullseye backports.

If you wait for a bit and install the upcoming Bookworm you will get 7.4.5.
There has been no date announced for Bookworm for Raspberry Pi yet.

One alternative is to build from source so you can get the very latest version. But that will take a long time to do.

If you use flatpaks you can install Libreoffice 7.5.3.2. Takes longer to load but everything works once loaded.

LibreOffice version 7.2.4 will also run painfully slowly on your Raspberry Pi 1 B.

... The 'newest' release is still too old. The bug was fixed in 7.2.4 over a year ago:

That's a possibility, but obviously not the most desirable one.

How does it work? Does it emulate x86-64?

I'd happily buy a more recent Pi, but we all know how that's going.
After 4 months customers lose patience and we have to come up with a solution.

Yes, improving rapidly now. Shouldn't be much longer before most models are available.

Pi2Bs can be had for around £20 on eBay. Even they have around 6 times the grunt of a Pi1B and can be comfortably overclocked to be considerably faster.
