Does Raspberry Pi OS not use openbox anymore?

Wed Sep 27, 2023 3:05 pm

I just installed Raspberry Pi OS in a VM for testing, and I was going to switch up some keybinds. However, it seems none of the XMLs are recognized anymore. I copied

Code: Select all

lxde-pi-rc.xml
to

Code: Select all

~/.config/openbox
and changed some keybinds, nothing. I tried changing the original file, nothing. I even deleted the entire

Code: Select all

/etc/xdg/openbox
directory, and the system seems to keep running just fine. Is this normal? If so, what's the new way of changing keybinds?

RPi with 2GB or more now default to Mutter.
RPi with <2GB will default to Openbox.

You can force Openbox on all RPi by enabling VNC and rebooting.

it uses Wayland Wayfire now:

Code: Select all

$ neofetch
       _,met$$$$$gg. pi@raspi
    ,g$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$P. --------
  ,g$$P" """Y$$.". OS: Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm) aarch64
 ,$$P' `$$$. Host: Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.5
',$$P ,ggs. `$$b: Kernel: 6.5.5-v8+
`d$$' ,$P"' . $$$ Uptime: 29 mins
 $$P d$' , $$P Packages: 2176 (dpkg)
 $$: $$. - ,d$$' Shell: bash 5.2.15
 $$; Y$b._ _,d$P' Resolution: 1280x1024
 Y$$. `.`"Y$$$$P"' DE: LXDE-pi-wayfire
 `$$b "-.__ WM: wayfire
  `Y$$ Theme: PiXflat [GTK3]
   `Y$$. Icons: PiXflat [GTK3]
     `$$b. Terminal: lxterminal
       `Y$$b. Terminal Font: Monospace 10
          `"Y$b._ CPU: BCM2835 (4) @ 2.100GHz
              `""" Memory: 1354MiB / 3792MiB
and it has much better graphics than Mutter and Openbox

it uses Wayland Wayfire now:

I'm so glad mutter has been dropped. Wayfire has "always-on-top" which I find an essential function when using a windowing gui.

Bookworm - Wayland/Wayfire for Pi4 and Pi5, older Pi's will use the old X11 stuff.
Pi5 will need Bookworm, old OS won't be supported on Pi5.

Been testing Bookworm on this Pi400, works fine and feels faster.
