Connecting 2 external USB buttons to control VLC

Sat Dec 02, 2023 5:51 am

I’ve got a small project I’m working on. Basically I have a box that I’ve settled the pi in, and I want two buttons that can basically work as the N & P buttons on my keyboard (to skip and goto previous on the playlist of videos)

I’m not quite ready to jump into soldering, was wondering if there’s a way to achieve this where I can have two buttons on top of my box that control VLC playlist functionality. Any help would be really appreciated, thanks!

You could use something like this where you "crimp" (i.e. press fit with pliers) connectors onto the wires of the buttons and insert them into a "shell".
Then plug that onto your pi GPIO pins (no soldering)

Or use a breadboard (no soldering) with "DuPont" cables.

Very cool, thank you for the response! The first way you mentioned with the shell, can I connect any buttons I want to that shell and program each button individually?

Assuming your push buttons have wires, like these https://www.amazon.co.uk/RUNCCI-YUN-Wa ... B0825RCZJS you can connect them and program each individually.
