Debian 11/12 not working on a Pi 2 and Pi 3

Tue Dec 05, 2023 11:17 pm

Hi! Recently I've tried installing Debian 11 on my Pi 3 from https://raspi.debian.net/tested-images/ to experiment with, and when I try to boot it, it appears to boot up as normal, but eventually just gives a black screen. I tried downloading Debian 12 for the Pi 3, and after some time booting, it just shut itself down abruptly and then the ACT LED flashes twice in a row repeatedly until I kill power. I also tried this on a Pi 2 (with the images built for Pi 2's) and they returned the same results as if they were booting on the Pi 3. Any help is greatly appreciated!

If you want to use those, you need to be prepared to use a serial console only, HDMI works if you upgrade them to Debian Testing, but AFAIR not for bullseye or bookworm.
If you don't have a serial cable, do as jamesh asks, run RPiOS, I would say 64-bit Lite. It should give you a working HDMI so you can see text on the attached monitor.

That should work on the Pi3, and probably the Pi2, but be aware that the earliest Pi2 version was 32-bit only.

Yes, Pi OS works. I tested the 32bit version on the Pi 2.
