Raspberry Pi Zero 2W connected to C270 logitech webcam

Wed Jan 03, 2024 11:29 pm

Hello,

I intend to connect a C270 logitech webcam to a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W in order to record some birds that visit my backyard feeder. Simultaneously, I would like Raspberry Pi to stream the videos to a cloud plataform like AWS.

I have two main concerns:

- Do I need a powered hub to power the webcam or the Raspberry Pi can do it alone?
- Does Raspberry Pi Zero 2W have enough computational power to record and to stream the videos?

FWIW I just started playing around with the Zero 2 W. The latest PI Imager recommends running the legacy Bullseye 32 bit OS. From Googling, it looks like this is because there is only 512MB of memory. I've taken this a step further and am only installing the 'Lite' version to eliminate the GUI components which can use a lot of memory.

So I don't have a definitive answer for you, but memory use is something you need to consider.

I decided to use the Orange Pi Zero 3 board since it provides more RAM memory of up to 4 Gb. So, I believe it is more suitable for applications that may consume more resources like the one I intend to develop.

Thank you for your reply. I made more considerations about the project.

I hope that works well for you :)

I don't know what the Orange Pi forums are like, but I hope they are able to help you if you have any problems.
