Killer Apps and Games for 7 and Under

Sun Feb 11, 2024 6:35 am

Anything I can recommend to my brother? He has 3 young kids and I just gave him my Pi 4B (8 GB). Games and other entertaining apps would be welcome!

Lots of people try to emulate old console or c64 / amiga games.

Is Minecraft pi available from synaptic? My brother isn't very computer savvy.

This is entirely the point of the Raspberry Pi.

I realise that. He's had it for 1 day so I don't expect him to be compiling software yet. He doesn't use much tech.

No for that you need pi-apps.

I just tried installing minecraft from flatpak. Seems it needs a 4K kernel, so I'll save that for when he gets his feet wet. He's like 7 years younger than me and hasn't had a game console or computer other than for work since high school, he's not quite my mom though, he was able to unzip and run one of my games with instructions.

minetest looked interesting but I get nothing but a black screen after starting a game. So far the apps I recommend are:

TuxPaint
Super Tux
TuxRacer
Super Tux Kart
Stellarium
Jump n bump

Just browsing through the games section in Add/Remove software, it looks like there are plenty of others.
