Minecraft Pi Missing After Raspberry Pi OS Install on Laptop

Sat Feb 17, 2024 1:03 pm

Hi Raspberry Pi Community,

I've recently taken on the task of installing Raspberry Pi OS on my laptop (the one I'm currently using) in hopes of diving into some of the educational tools and games, particularly looking forward to Minecraft Pi Edition. However, after installation, I've noticed that Minecraft Pi is conspicuously absent from the games menu. Further investigation revealed it's also missing from the recommended software and the add/remove software menus.

Understanding the compatibility issues, I turned to Pi-Apps as a potential workaround, only to realize it doesn't support x86 processors, which leaves me back at square one. This has been a bit of a setback in my Raspberry Pi exploration journey, especially since I was eager to explore Minecraft on Raspberry Pi.

Does anyone have advice or alternative methods for downloading Minecraft Pi Edition on an x86 system running Raspberry Pi OS? Any guidance or tips on how to get Minecraft Pi up and running on my setup would be immensely appreciated. I'm keen on using Minecraft as an educational tool and for some light coding projects, so finding a solution would be fantastic.

Thanks in advance for any help or insights you can provide!

I would have thought the Pi version was licensed to Pi boards only?

A couple of thoughts:

1) The education version can be used at home https://education.minecraft.net/en-us
2) Pi-Apps is a great collection of Bash scripts so (subject to both sets of T&Cs) you may be able to extract the install steps from https://github.com/Botspot/pi-apps and load using them.
I would tell you a joke about UDP but you may not get it.

Pi-Apps developer here.

You did not install Raspberry Pi OS on your laptop, you installed Linux with a PiOS theme, commonly called Raspberry Pi Desktop for PC and Mac.
That is a more exact definition.

Minecraft Pi only runs on ARM, but it should be possible to emulate an ARM system in order to run it.
Here is a video that could be somewhat helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvnibwqZ3q8
Be aware you will need to treat that tutorial as more of a guideline than exact steps, as what you are trying to do is slightly different. This could be a good starting point though. Be aware that I have never followed that tutorial and cannot provide any special support for it.
Easily install anything on your Pi using Pi-Apps. Over 2 million users.
Over 200 apps including image editors, IDEs, games, web browsers, appearance themes, and more to upgrade your Raspberry Pi desktop.
