I hope also to receive as soon as possible my Pi board!!
I made a demonstration video (available in HD) of my first strong case for the Raspberry Pi.
It shows the opening and closing system of my Pi case.

It's looking good!
Just out of interest, do you anticipate that when your case is eventually available for purchase from Shapeways it will be sold as a complete item, or will the top and bottom be sold as two separate pieces?
If so, this would then enable a 'two tone' case to be ordered with, for example, a red 'top' and a black 'bottom' which could look rather smart.
Just an idea anyway!

Re: Design Case for the Raspberry Pi
Some photos of my Pi cases. I used a Dimension 1200 printer. So the quality is not very good but enough to verify the assembly of the parts. it works very fine.

Yes! I will put on shapeways the top and the bottom of my case separatly.
Because my first was cut in order to have differents colors for the back and the bottom case.

Re: Design Case for the Raspberry Pi
Thank you for you quick reply and for the above pictures.
I found it interesting to see the two cases side by side, which will help prospective purchasers to decide which one they they feel will be the most suitable for them.
As I mentioned earlier, I have already made my choice though… now it is just the question of choosing which two colours I prefer… and waiting for them to be available too, of course!

You may have taken this into account. But I don't see a way to extend a flat cable from the GPIO connector. - Mac

I already thought about it. But I don't put on my case an access to the GPIO connector. When I will have some free time I will try to draw something for the GPIO.

Re: Design Case for the Raspberry Pi
If the slit (top/bottom) lined up with a flat cable as it extended from a connector then an opening for the cable could be made along that line. And the cable would extend out the side with the RCA plug.
This is a great looking case. Good work!

Re: Design Case for the Raspberry Pi
I love the design of the case but i was wondering maybe a hinge on the top piece so people, like me, would not lose it as i am for ever putting stuff down and forgetting where i put it.

I am not in favour of that idea personally as it could detract from the sleek lines of the case, and I guess that most folk will have the top in place for most of the time anyway, which is the idea of having a case in the first place!
It would probably be difficult to incorporate into the moulding especially as the top and bottom will be separate items, and may also be two different colours.

Re: Design Case for the Raspberry Pi
What if you incorporate two loops on the inside of the tqwo halves of the case to which a zip tie or a twist tie can be loosly attached to prevent the two halves getting far away from each other?

Re: Design Case for the Raspberry Pi
I was thinking instead of a hinge, something to protect your raspberry pi like a hole somewhere was a simple lock. Or even a built in lock, which would add onto the price but i have no problem with costs, just to keep it extra safe.
Re: Design Case for the Raspberry Pi
Next you"ll be wanting a Kensington lock.

Re: Design Case for the Raspberry Pi
nope just a small lock
Re: Design Case for the Raspberry Pi
I think a supplement plastic fastener is not necessary. With the clip system, the case is correctly attach and can be remove only with a pressure on the side of the case (where there are the little semi spheres).
But with 3d printing it's possible to create a fastener that rotate (like a hinge) in one shot for the information.
I made a website with some images of my Pi cases and this website will also present other objects for other applications. It's a design parts website for 3d printable objects.
I will put a link to it as soon as finish to built my website!

Re: Design Case for the Raspberry Pi
It is nearly a week now since we last heard from you.
How are things going?
Hopefully your case design will be finalised, and available to buy from Shapeways soon?

Sorry for my late reply but I haven"t seen your message before.
I will receive my Pi production Board this week. So, if there are some problems with the dimensions of my case, I will re-draw it and print it again. So, I think my case will be available on shapeways in 2 weeks at maximum.
I drawed a new version of my "standard case" (not my "design case") which include an access to the GPIO connector.
Here some pictures to illustrate:

Re: Design Case for the Raspberry Pi
Thanks for the update... and for the new pictures.
It is looking very smart indeed, and I just hope that it will not be too expensive for me to buy, once it is available to purchase.
Please keep us updated on here, when you have finalised your design.

In principle, my "standard case" (the case on the pictures above) is actually between 24-25 euros on shapeways. I hope to have a price under 24 euros. But for sur it will be under 25euros.
My "design case" (my first case) will be under 35 euros because there are more material volume to print. Maybe I found some solutions to keep strong walls thickness with a cheaper price for this case. I hope to have my design case under 30euros.
Currently my designs of my cases are finalised. I just wait to test with the Pi board.

Re: Design Case for the Raspberry Pi
Thanks again... I am sure that we all hope you will receive your Raspberry Pi computer very soon, and that you don't have to modify your design too much!
In an earlier post you mentioned that your 'standard case' would have an 'open' base, and and that your 'design case' (which I think will be my preference) will have a ventilated base, and I assume this is still correct ?
Once you have been able to finalise your design, will you be making both cases available from Shapeways at the same time?
(Sorry for all the questions, but hopefully we are getting close now!)

Re: Design Case for the Raspberry Pi
Bud Industries created 2 cases to house the Raspberry Pi Board. They will be sold through Newark/Element14 & Allied/RS Components
We also uploaded a video on our youtube page. Check it out

Re: Design Case for the Raspberry Pi
Why not start a separate thread for the Bud case, rather than 'hijacking' this one?
It will only get confusing otherwise, as we are looking at two very different products here.
