We're recruiting!
Director of Communications, Raspberry Pi
Re: We're recruiting!
If this were any closer to home I'd be applying right now. Sadly I think that commuting from Cardiff to Cambridge every day would get a little tiresome!
Best of luck with the recruitment; I don't envy your hiring manager, there are going to be more than a few CVs to sift through!

I was thinking the same, I've already got a career but I would gladly do something for the Foundation as a volunteer.lpsw wrote:+1, I'd do it for free
Re: We're recruiting!
My career is winding down, retiring in a few months after 30 years in mainframe hardware development and last 10 in customer hand-holding. Not really rewarding, except for the financial part. Time to flip that around.
Edit: Liz, thereare probably is a gaggle of us folk out here.
Edit: Liz, there

I really hope that some (plenty) of you apply - I can't think of anything better than being able to recruit for these jobs out of the community. Get working on those CVs!

Don't let that put you off. I moved from London to 10 miles south of Cambridge about ten years ago, best move I ever madejackokring wrote:It is just location.

Unfortunately I don't have the experience for these jobs

Liz,
Do people still deal in CV's and Resumes?
I thought it was all done by Facebook, Linkedin and Github contributions now a days.
Us old guys don't stand a chance. Steadfastly refusing to have anything to do with that.

Re: We're recruiting!
I'm biased that way, but I think it's a great place to live and work. The city is beautiful and full of really clever people, good restaurants, theatres and lots of live music; we're only 45 minutes from London (EXACTLY 45 minutes, once we've moved to the new offices), if that floats your boat; and there's countryside within easy reach.
Lots of bookshops, too.

It's a small place. You can walk all the way through the city in less than 20 minutes.Heater wrote:Possibly the last few square miles of civilization on this planet.

My turn...I would sell my mother and my soul to work there...but the commute from the USA would be a killer.

Re: We're recruiting!
Its always possible I may loose my current job in the future, I sincerely don't hope so, because I'm nearly 60 years old, and I like my job, which currently involves writing Python code for a chip tester (I designed myself).
But then moving to Cambridge, (or anywhere in England) would be a bit much at my age.

Re: We're recruiting!
The problem with Cambridge is the cost of housing (it's mental) - check that out before moving! I have to live 35 miles North of Cambridge because that was the first place I liked that I could afford.
Although note, Pi towers to moving much closer to the station, so commute by train is an option.

Re: We're recruiting!
Just about possible from here. I think there is one direct train a day to Cambridge, but it goes all over the place to get there. The alternative is to go into London and back out again.jamesh wrote:Pi towers to moving much closer to the station, so commute by train is an option.
Car is possible, about an hour each way.
I think I'll keep waiting to see if something more local turns up.
Re: We're recruiting!
By "much closer to the station", JamesH actually means "a minute's walk from the station". We've actually got quite a few people who commute to Cambridge from London working with us at the moment.

Re: We're recruiting!
It would be about 2 hours for me, an hour into London and another hour back out again (which would double my 1 hour each way commute time). The jobs don't match my skillset so the commute time is the least of my problems.

Too much for me, I'd have to get a Segway.liz wrote:By "much closer to the station", JamesH actually means "a minute's walk from the station". We've actually got quite a few people who commute to Cambridge from London working with us at the moment.

You can buy an ex-council flat, on a post first world war brick built council estate in the Elephant and Castle for £400,000. That's expensive.jamesh wrote:The problem with Cambridge is the cost of housing (it's mental)

Similar to Cambridge. Two up two down terraced house, no off road parking, £350,000-£400,000Woll wrote:You can buy an ex-council flat, on a post first world war brick built council estate in the Elephant and Castle for £400,000.
