[Solved] Mouse lag

Wed Sep 21, 2016 11:52 pm

Hi folks,

Brand new Tecknet wireless mouse. It works fine on my Debian 8 x86 desktop, but lags by about 2 seconds or so on my RPi 2b.

What could be going on with the rpi that would cause this?

Thanks!

Are you using any USB 3.0 accessories? They can interfere with your keyboard/mouse reciever even if plugged into a USB 2.0 port.

No USB 3.0.

I actually found a fix, which is to append:

Code: Select all

usbhid.mousepoll=0
to /boot/cmdline.txt

I wonder why that isn't default?

Thanks!

Some time ago the default polling rate for mouse/keyboard was reduced, which was a very sensible decision (reduces processor work).
This didn't work for some USB wireless keyboard/mouse combo chips. Then the optional boot option was added to fix this.

BTW, you can also experiment with other values, if your mouse wheel is not working correctly after adding this option. I'm using "usbhid.mousepoll=4"

Good call. I have had a similar problem with a wireless Anker keyboard/mouse combo. Trying the "0" setting, it seems to remove the irritating typing lag I experienced. I had just chocked it up to the slower characteristics of the processor.

Well...I thought it was fixed.

The other day my system didn't boot, so I wiped it and installed a fresh image.

Now the mouse is back to being super laggy.

I added that line back in, but the mouse is still just as laggy.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Check you cmdline.txt. It may not contain any line breaks.

My mistake! (And I forgot to update)

I dumped that line into config.txt, not cmdline.txt!

Sorry about that!

Thank you, al!

First I do the very simple, but bad mistake to fix this problem.

I edited the cmdline.txt, but add new line after already line, and wrote usbhid.mousepoll=0.
It's not work.

Next, I add new line before already line. It's not boot! Need to fix from start up with continuous pushing SHIFT key.

At last, add usbhid.mousepoll=0 to the already line. It's work perfect!
