Camera Crashing Pi(s)
So I own 2 Raspberry Pis. I also own a camera module. The Pis are a B+ and a 3. In both of them the camera turns off the pi. When the pi is off and I put the camera in it won't turn on. I have turned on the camera in raspi-config on BOTH. And nope did not work. I have installed raspbian in 2 different ways. NOOBS and burning a disk image on to a micro SD car (both use that kind). More than once I've installed it. And yes I have upgraded it. So someone please help me.
Re: Camera Crashing Pi(s)
How much millamperes is your power supply rated for ? 700 mA ? 1200 mA ? 2000 mA (2.0 A) ?

Re: Camera Crashing Pi(s)
Yes...Power supply suspect. I have a Pi that works fine but intermittently goes down when running the camera. It's just enough to push the gas station car charger I'm using over it's limit.

I will check my power supply because I use the same one for both.

Or it claims to be 2.5A. The claim and reality may not match under load. The Monkey wrote:I checked my power and it is 2.5A

Re: Camera Crashing Pi(s)
Would it work if I were to overclock the pi if another power supply did not work.

Re: Camera Crashing Pi(s)
WILL SOMEONE HELP ME
Re: Camera Crashing Pi(s)
Answered in the order they're asked:
If it's a power problem, overclocking won't help
A 1A supply is probably not good enough
I'd love to help, but I've not come up with many useful ideas!
My one thought is that the camera might be faulty, and taking too much current.
Checking that might be difficult, though, but perhaps you could approach this from a different angle.
Have you got any power-hungry USB devices that you could plug in, without connecting the camera, just to see what happens to the Pi?

Re: Camera Crashing Pi(s)
I would expect the Pi to start up even with a on the edge power supply, since the camera does not take power until turned on - you woudl expect the Pi to drop out at that point.
My suspicion is a broken camera, assuming the cable and connections are correct.

Re: Camera Crashing Pi(s)
I will buy a new raspberry pi camera I might buy 3'rd party because this was the direct 1st version. Because I don't entirely want to spend $30 when I can spend $15.jamesh wrote:I would expect the Pi to start up even with a on the edge power supply, since the camera does not take power until turned on - you woudl expect the Pi to drop out at that point.
