Atrix Multimedia dock (not lapdock)

Thu Sep 27, 2012 2:48 am

Hello everybody!

I have a multimedia dock that came with my atrix which acts as a hub to connect usb mouse, keyboard, hd and other accessories. Furthermore it comes with a remote control to theoretically use atrix as a central multimedia.

It has a micro-USB output that has voltage of 5V and 1A that besides feeding the phone still works as a usb host (usb hub).

How could connect it to the usb raspberry without burning it? I thought I'd use a usb cable that has 2 outputs, one connected to the mini-usb that feeds the raspberry and the other on port usb common, causing it to be detected as a hub for linux.

Here are photos of the multimedia dock so you know what I mean.

I would imagine it's like the laptop dock

Just get this:

Then plug this into the power and USB that gives you access to the usb ports in the back of the dock.

You could just power the Pi regularly and get a Male to Male connection instead of the y-cable

Thanks for the quick reply!

My only question is about this output usb dock in providing access to the usb hub, the fact that it is energized and have 1A makes me afraid to plug in the usb input pi and give a power overload.

Normally the items plugged into the usb not use energy and provide energy.

Like plugging in a keyboard in the back it takes power from the dock it doesn't send power to the dock.

I think it should be safe it's basically the laptop dock without a screen and keyboard.

Either way USB can handle 1amp in or out. Your not adding power to anything just using what comes through.

You did not understand my question. The top output in dock has hub function while energy has to carry the phone (just like the lapdock).

I need cut the red cable too?
Slice open the USB Male to USB Male cable and cut the red, 5 volt wire. Tape closed using electrical tape.

If I understand the boards correctly. It depends on which version 1 board you have.

They didn't put the power connection to the USB port (non power port) because they were either using the old version 1 board or they just didn't want to. If I understand correct I have the later board with the poly fuses replaced and back feeding power is ok.

Your method will work on either board and looks good.

If you do not have polyfuses at F1/F2 (USB), you will only need one cable. Later models have either 0ohm resistors or nothing at all. You could still cut into the cable to put your switch, or you could just unplug it!
