SSH Problems

Sat Dec 23, 2017 9:50 am

So I just got a raspberry pi today and wanted to start tinkering with it. However, I couldn't because I didn't have a keyboard and a mouse that could fit in the raspberry pi zero w. So I decided to go partially headless. I used these site to help set me up:

https://howchoo.com/g/mzgzy2mwowj/how-t ... itor-mouse

https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/q ... d-ssh-file (for some reason the networking on the previous website didn't work for me, but this one did :/)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlCr09B2HZI (this was when I got frustrated :P. not really helpful though, because i have raspbian strech and I am pretty sure the commands aren't the same.)

Anyways I fianlly got to the SSH Putty part, the default login (pi raspberry) didn't work. I'm pretty sure the ip was right because I did ping raspberrypi and it worked? I have no idea why Putty isn't allowing me to. Any ideas? Thanks for the help :)

SSH is not enabled by default any more so you need to enable it.

https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... ccess/ssh/

see option 3 for headless

I'm pretty sure I did that. Do the settings (ssh and wifi) reset after each boot? When I boot though, the warning sign say ssh is enabled (I use a monitor, but can't directly interact because I don't have a keyboard and a mouse to plug into pi)

Oops, figured out my problem! I think when I was putting the ip address in putty, I put raspberrypi as ip, which probably made it think it was a website (it connected so that's what I think :P). I just went to my router and found an ip address that way :P

SSH to pi@raspberrypi.local will work if you have a Zeroconf network service installed (Apple's iTunes and Bonjour Printer Service add a Zeroconf network service). Otherwise you'd use your Pi's IP.
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups, and where is that annoying music coming from?
