How to access a single website that works on Internet Explorer only

Sun Jan 21, 2018 10:05 pm

Hello all,
I have a Q-see security camera system NVR that i have tried a millions ways from Sunday to get a working rtsp stream from to no avil.
The only way (other than its smartphone app) is to access the cameras though its website that requires a username and password at http://www.q-seeqcview.com/ which only works on Internet Explorer as it wants you to run and install a .exe extension or via local lan through http with a .html at the end that wants me to install an activeX extension again only through Internet Explorer. sis this all possible... as the other web browsers will not work.
What i want to do is use a raspberry pi zero w or raspberry pi 3 attached to a monitor whose all purpose will be to access this website ...how can i do that??
Any ideas and help will be greatly appreciated
thank you all in advance
Denis

You won't ever get something like that working on a Raspberry for two reasons:

1. No browser supports ActiveX
2. Any ActiveX control will be written for X86 or X86_64 processors only and would fail to run on a Raspberry Pi ARM processor. Some folks will tell you that it may be possible with an emulator, but then you'd be stuck by no ActiveX.

Ask the manufacturer to support Linux. When they agree to that ask them to support Linux on an ARM based processor.

Or search the internets for other Linux users who've met the same problem.

Or start writing your own code. You can reverse-engineer the protocol using Wireshark and lots of time.

Or sell your useless cameras on eBay and buy something that has native Linux on ARM support to replace it.
