Airline Tycoon Deluxe for Raspberry/Raspbian “wheezy”

Mon Nov 19, 2012 2:25 pm

Dear gamers,

I am currently tasked with the re-publishing of Runesoft's Linux titles on Desura and Ubuntu Software Center. So far, Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood and Airline Tycoon Deluxe are published.

Out of curiosity I built a binary on my Raspberry (running Raspbian “wheezy”) and the game works perfectly so far (Well, no serious testing has and will be done). Now I want to share it with you.

Requirements:
  • An installed, full version of Airline Tycoon Deluxe for Linux. You can buy a copy from Desura, Ubuntu Software Center or on CD-ROM directly from Runesoft or retailers like Tuxgames (Please use the updated installer for the CD-ROM version)
Raspberry Pi with the Raspbian “wheezy” image (Arch will probably also work, but I have never tried it)
Installation:
  • Copy over an existing x86 installation of the game to your Raspberry
Download the Raspberry binaries archive from our update page and extract it within the game directory.
    Execute ATDeluxe.armv6l
Caveat:
  • If you want the game to fill the whole screen, make sure the resolution of 640x480 is available or use the /window argument to run the game in a window.
I really want to stress that this build is EXPERIMENTAL, INOFFICIAL AND UNSUPPORTED. Nevertheless I'd still be happy to get some feedback and if time and your interest permit, I'll even fix bugs if you find some. :)

Sweet, does this mean a Pi port of the Earth 21XX series is on its way? :D

Unlikely I think, it is not even ported to Linux so far.

But I could give Robin Hood and Northland a try.

You can not copy the data directly from the CD. You have to copy over an already installed version from your PC.

Thanks. I played in this game.

I can't understand why this game is not so popular among Raspberry Pi users like Quake 3, Minecraft, and so on. In the past Runesoft had ported many a great games to many popular operating systems e.g. Windows, Linux, Mac OS X (PPC and Intel) and very exotic platforms:

AmigaOS:

Earth 2140
The Feeble Files
Simon the Sorcerer II: The Lion, the Wizard and the Wardrobe
Software Tycoon

Linux PPC:

Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood

Magnussoft ZETA:

Airline Tycoon Deluxe
Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood

MorphOS:

Airline Tycoon Deluxe
Barkanoid 2
Birdie Shoot
Knights and Merchants: The Shattered Kingdom
Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood

I think that Runesoft can be the most important company on the Raspberry Pi game market, if people want to play in their games.

Do you plan to add Airline Tycoon Deluxe to Raspberry Pi Store?
