Hello,
I understand that most free VPNs have risks.
I've been looking at Winscribe that works on Linux.
Can someone help me understand if Winscribe would work on a Pi3B+ and if so ... what I'de need to to.
I'm currently using LibreElec and Kodi
This link takes you to the relevant VPN page.

By the way .... I'm not suggesting that Winscribe is any good.
Re: Free VPN - WINSCRIBE - Will it work on a Pi3?
Not suggesting it will properly work, but there is an ARM / Debian 9 binary available so that could work on Raspbian Stretch I suppose.
The thing is a wrapper for IPSEC or OpenVPN plus some firewalling config. Unfortunately the plain openvpn config file generator available online is a “Pro” only feature. If you don’t want to pay, downloading their binary is the only way
Not open source so either their integration is not so tight or they are in breach.

Re: Free VPN - WINSCRIBE - Will it work on a Pi3?
I'm using the paid service from windscribe with a Pi as a VPN router for my lan. Works fine for me. (Pi3 acting as AP, DNS, DHCP, and router)
I can see no reason that the free service wouldn't work.
Unless they've changed things recently, you'll need to set things up manually as their limux tools have been built for a different CPU type - x86 rather than Arm.
Not sure what steps are needed on libreelec but essentialy you install and configure openVPN.
I do hope you're not intending to use the VPN for nefarious purposes (accessing licensed content without paying for it for example)

LibreElec has no means of installing any software except Kodi add-ons.
PiVPN is usually recommended if running Raspbian Stretch.
Take what I advise as advice not the utopian holy grail, and it is gratis !!

LibreElec has OpenVPN included in its standard build images.
There is a VPN manager addon in the LE repo which can be used to control it, although you do of course still need to supply your own config file or details.

Re: Free VPN - WINSCRIBE - Will it work on a Pi3?
So ... just a thought ... but would TOR Browser work on a Pi3?
Re: Free VPN - WINSCRIBE - Will it work on a Pi3?
Don't know but google probably does

Couple of related points:
- You don't need TOR browser to route your traffic through the TOR network
- TOR browser doesn't provide the encryption that a VPN does, it just disguises where your traffic originates.
- You'll probably see unexpected results when accessing web sites and services that use your IP address to localise their content.
- TOR won't prevent you ISP inspecting, blocking, etc your packets
My concerns about the ligitamacy of what you're trying to do still stand so please don't ask me for step by step instructions as they won't be provided.

Re: Free VPN - WINSCRIBE - Will it work on a Pi3?
The free version of Windscribe works perfectly. I has installed it on a pi 3b and a pi 3b+. You use the instructions on their website in respect of the Debian 9 installation if you are using the latest version of Stretch. Just copy and paste the few commands shown into a terminal. You can instal both the desktop version and the Google Chrome addon. Hope this helps! Dave Entwistle

Thanks Dave ... I'll have a look.
If I get stuck can I give you a shout?

Yes certainly I will try to help. It did not work for me straight away after following instructions then I realised that I needed to reboot, then it worked immediately. Also I realised when entering commands from their instructions, they do not tell you to precede each line with 'sudo'.If I get stuck can I give you a shout?
I do hope this helps you. Regards, Dave.
Re: Free VPN - WINSCRIBE - Will it work on a Pi3?
My Pi already has LibreElect and so I guess the first stop is start again and try to get Debian 9 Stretch to work on it.
Re: Free VPN - WINSCRIBE - Will it work on a Pi3?
Dave,
I've been looking through the instructions on the Winscribe sie (https://windscribe.com/guides/linux#how-to) and I'll be honest ... this is over my head.
Forgive my niavity but I'm very new to the PI and using commands. I was wondering if you have time to give me a bit of helpo with this?
My Raspberry is a 3B+ ... if it makes a difference.
Any help is really appreciated... Jon

Dave.
Cancel that .. it was much easier than I thought and I'm new to this. Everything works perfectly.
But only thanks to your advice to use "sudo" at the beginning of each line.
Thanks again
