Chromium crashes trying to open YouTube

This happens to my Pi4 once I log ged into Google account and click YouTube.
Why some users do not experience this crashing?
. m.youtube.com doesnt work. Incognito works as long as you stay on Youtube.
Pls fix this.

also VLC isn't able to show YouTube videos anymore.
to get YouTube working again i already updated the youtube.lua files few weeks ago with these ones:

BTW: JDownloader2 is still able to download YouTube videos (but the download is very slow).

When Logging on Chromium with google account works
when opening Chromium in Incognito mode; youtube opens, crashes sometimes when play a video

Running in terminal: chromium-browser --enable-logging --v=1

I get the following error :

Adding on to the cookies fix, if you add it to the never save cookies list then it doesn't seem to have a problem. Just until they fix the bug anyway.

I'm no longer having a problem,

this replaces the chromium-browser package.

Seems to work I watch in Incognito mode so far I've played 9+ videos in a row and no crashing.

Update still no problems and I haven't done loaded any of these other fixes and I'm not using m.youtube.com. I'm only in incognito mode.

Just downgrade Chromium to 88-90 for the time being and all seems to work ok untill the bug get fixed. /S

I'm running 90.0.4430.212 with out issue so far.

For myself I don't use add-ons and would rather have Chromium 90 and have everything working and then upgrade to 92, 93 or whatever version is released that works. That's my personal take.

You are the chromium wizard kerry_s and I would consider your solution if I really wanted version 92. I didn't notice that my Buster install is also has the same issue! I'm going to try the kerry_s fix on this machine as I use it everyday. Sadly this didn't work for me.

Kerry_s, that worked for a while, but after a few videos it crashed Chromium again. I guess I could just keep hitting the clear cache button every few videos but I think I'm going to downgrade for now.

that's weird cause i'm on youtube all day, no crashing.
i'll watch vid after vid without issues.

if you leave youtube, you need to click before you go back.

Oh for god's sake this is true, it actually broke DRM support. Can't log into Spotify web anymore. What can we do about it?

Well it seems like a trade off you can have one but not the other at least for now. Unless the other method works for you, we know that the brilliant minds are working the problem so hopefully there will be an update soon.

My youtube did crash as well on the weekend. Then I found this thread and followed the advice to clear the cache. Immediately youtube worked.

Regarding the Widevine stateement, I just started Netflix in Raspberry "Chromium (Media Edition)" and was able to play a movie without problems.

I started Chromium newly, did clear browsing data (everything, all time), and then youtube.com was fine.
I was able to play this video:

But after less than 3 minutes after clearing browser cache, clicking on that link crashes Chromium again.
So current procedure is "if see crash, clear all brosing data, and then quickly look the video you are interested in, until next crash will happen after some minutes"?

I've stated, multiple times, that we are looking in to this, this week. Me too answers don't really add a lot and just clutter up this thread, which the engineer has been pointed at.

Just clear the files in this folder will work, ~/.config/chromium/Default/Service Worker/ScriptCache/.
Youtube will play as long as it is in the same video Window, else, crash again.

Please read the whole thread. "Sudo apt install chromium" rolls back Chromium to version 90, which breaks widevine. Version 92, i am guessing temporarily, was removed from the repositories.

The latest Bullseye update sort of fixes the YouTube problem.

But samba file sharing is broken.

Going back to Buster, everything works fine. But don't upgrade. YouTube will crash. And you have to clear the cookies thing.

Bullesye is broken in the things that matter to the casual daily user.

Pls fix this.
