Looooong Lead Time on Pi Zero 2 W
I just placed an order with Newark, and to get it above the $150 where I get free shipping, I topped off my order with a couple of Raspberry Pi Zero 2 Ws. They shipped the rest of my order right away, and, due to the chip shortage, I wasn't too surprised that they didn't ship the Pis right away. I WAS surprised when they gave me an estimated shipping date of OCTOBER 14! Is this typical for ordering Pis right now?

Yes.
See the multitude of other related threads. There's a pandemic on, what?
Oh no, not again.

With Newark you never can be sure. Last time I back-ordered something from them they pushed the estimated date back repeatedly (until I got tired of waiting and cancelled the order). They're fine for ordering in-stock items, but don't hold your breath for back-ordered items.

I noticed the price of the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 on different online stores. You will be paying over $85 for the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W if you needed to purchase one now. The suggested price on the Raspberry Pi website for the the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W is $15.

I'm not sure anyone cares, but Newark bumped my "expected to ship" date back to 5/3/23. Apparently I didn't put sufficient os in my Looooooooooong!

Yup, called it (see my post above). I've ordered a lot of in-stock stuff from Newark and had a very good experience, but their back-order estimated ship dates seem like wild guesses at best.
If you want something sooner, sign up for in-stock notifications from several Raspberry Pi resellers (and when you get a notification, jump on it). I got another Zero2 and 4B that way (didn't even take that long, I was surprised how quickly I received notifications).

Yup. As a reseller, we've had several POs from Newark open for more than a year recently.

I have a Google Coral USB accelerator on order with RS. I've already passed about 4 of their estimated shipping dates and now it is back to August. I don't care too much because I'm too busy with other stuff to do anything with it, so if it shows up early next year, that's fine.
I have a feeling that no more will be available though, it will likely be replaced with a newer version.

My expected ship date has now slipped to August 13, 2023. So in the five months since I ordered the Pis, my expected ship date has slipped by ten months. What do you think will happen first? 1) I die; 2) Newark goes out of business; or 3) The Pis I ordered ship.

Estimates are that the backlogs should clear by the middle of next year - fingers crossed.

Re: Looooong Lead Time on Pi Zero 2 W
The Zero 2W is the worst affected of the entire range unfortunately. Mid next year sounds possible, but its so difficult to make any sort of accurate estimation on this sort of thing.

My expected to ship date slipped again - to September 26, 2024! All I can say is WOW!
Re: Looooong Lead Time on Pi Zero 2 W
That's just a way to address the fact that the stock control database can only hold dates and there is no way to enter "we have no idea when we will actually receive stock".

Re: Looooong Lead Time on Pi Zero 2 W
I would seriously suggest that is you are waiting for a Pi0W of some description, you take a look at the PicoW in case that can do the job for you. The 40nm parts are going to be in short supply for quite some time. Or move to the Pi4 where we hope things will improve Q2 next year.

You forgot option 4) it becomes obsolete because a new board is now unavailable to ship.ajlenze wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 3:06 pmMy expected ship date has now slipped to August 13, 2023. I have signed up to multiple sites for notification of availability of Zero 2W, but that was almost on day 1, still waiting to get that e-mail, but have now rather lost interest, as have a few Pico-W boards, but can't get them to remain responsive on a network, and don't even try connecting them to a PC USB port, that really messes with the Wifi interrupts and stability. Can still ping, they can still ping, but they stop receiving HTTP server requests ARGH.

Please report any reproducible issues on the pico-sdk issue tracker, and we will try to sort them out.revell1 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 7:48 amYou forgot option 4) it becomes obsolete because a new board is now unavailable to ship.ajlenze wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 3:06 pmMy expected ship date has now slipped to August 13, 2023. Re: Looooong Lead Time on Pi Zero 2 W
Odd, because I did the same thing (for both a Zero 2 and another 4B), and I got notifications pretty quickly (less than 2 weeks). Then, not long after I got the first Zero 2 (and the 4B) I got a notification from a different reseller, and I got a second Zero 2. That was around the same time frame (shortly after Zero 2 launch), and I had actually received another notification, but responded too slowly and missed out on that one.
I know things are different now (especially with the Zero 2), but back then in-stock notifications worked well for me.

If only they were reproducible. But the failures are totally random, example code from "github.com/earlephilhower/arduino-pico" runs, unless it dies. May run for minutes or hours.jamesh wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 8:19 amPlease report any reproducible issues on the pico-sdk issue tracker, and we will try to sort them out.revell1 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 7:48 amYou forgot option 4) it becomes obsolete because a new board is now unavailable to ship.ajlenze wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 3:06 pmMy expected ship date has now slipped to August 13, 2023. Have tried different examples, all have same issues.
