What's the latest on the official Android 4.0 port?
It's been awhile since we've heard anything about the official Android port. What's up?

There was a reference to it in one of the threads - the short answer is "Don't hold your breath".sega dude wrote:It's been awhile since we've heard anything about the official Android port. What's up?
Still, I have to ask: Why? I don't understand wanting to run Android on the Pi.
Why run a toy OS when you can run the real thing? Seriously, I know of other SBCs where Android is the only thing that really works - i.e., supports all the hardware - so you're kinda stuck running Android (if you need all the hardware to work - and work fully up to spec).
But such is not the case in the Pi world - where most of the official development is aimed at Linux, not Android.
And some folks need to stop being fanboys and see the forest behind the trees.

And it is not ready for general release yet (heard from a broadcom employee)

Although I don't think there is any specific Raspi porting going on at the moment. Just general Android stuff.

Yes, the work is being done for Android on Videocore 4, (which is used in other chips) not specifically the 2835. In fact there are already devices on the market using it, so its in a pretty good state, but Google keep moving the goalposts (ie new versions of Android!)
