It works for me. I think it has worked ever since Windows 98.

(I'm running XP here)
And some folks need to stop being fanboys and see the forest behind the trees.

(One of the best lines I've seen on this board lately)

LXDE treats the Windows key as a modifier, like Ctrl or Alt, and uses it for some existing shortcuts so it's not possible to detect when just that key has been pressed. It is possible to detect the Menu key on it's own and I've mapped that to open the 'Start' menu as a reasonable alternative.

Edit the file /home/<username>/.config/openbox/ldxe-rc.xml

In there you'll find a section with lots of <keybind> tags, add the following:

Code: Select all

    <keybind key="Menu">
      <action name="Execute">
        <command>lxpanelctl menu</command>
      </action>
    </keybind>
You could use "W-M" instead of "Menu" above if you preferred Windows+M to open the 'Start' menu.

To activate the changes restart your desktop session or type openbox --reconfigure into a command line.

I've also added some other key bindings such as Windows+B to open a browser, Windows+C to bring up a command line/terminal window, etc., which is handy for frequently used apps.

There is a typo in the filename, it should be: /home/<username>/.config/openbox/lxde-rc.xml
