be80be wrote:Could you post what you have i /etc/network/interfaces

This is what it should look like

Code: Select all

cat network/interfaces
auto lo

iface lo inet loopback
iface eth0 inet dhcp

allow-hotplug wlan0
iface wlan0 inet manual
wpa-roam /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
iface default inet dhcp
That calls the /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
which needs to look like this

Code: Select all

 /etc/wpa_supplicant $ sudo cat wpa_supplicant.conf
ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev
update_config=1

network={
        ssid="YOURSSID"
        psk="YOURKEY"
        proto=RSN
        key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
        pairwise=TKIP
        auth_alg=OPEN
}
Here's what I have

/etc/network/interfaces

Code: Select all

  GNU nano 2.2.6                                       File: /etc/network/interfaces

auto lo

iface lo inet loopback
iface eth0 inet dhcp

allow hotplug wlan0
iface wlan0 inet manual
wpa_roam /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
iface wlan0 inet dhcp

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-ssid  tornadohill5
/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

Code: Select all

  GNU nano 2.2.6                                 File: /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev
update_config=1

network={
        ssid="tornadohill5"
        proto=RSN
        pairwise=TKIP
        auth_alg=OPEN
}
and here's what I get.

Remove this

Code: Select all

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-ssid  tornadohill5
The line above it should set you up.

And does your network have a key etc " psk="YOURKEY" "

No, I don't have a network key because I live out in the country side with neighbors way too far to use my internet. I also changed /etc/network/interfaces and took out that extra stuff. Now what, it still doesn't work.

You no this is a Linux OS and as such it loves passwords. I don't know much about the wpa and it's configure files. But i almost bet it don't handle not having a password on the wifi well.

I looked at the shell script that handles the ssid and key there is no it's ok to not have a key. I'm sure it will work without one but that still don't mean there is no blank line

Code: Select all

network={
        ssid="YOURSSID"
        psk="YOURKEY" : this has to have something even if it's blank
        proto=RSN
        key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
        pairwise=TKIP
        auth_alg=OPEN
}

Code: Select all

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-ssid  tornadohill5

As I mentioned in my OP, I am familar with linux an lxde and I do know that I am effectively pissing off linux by not having a password and have thought about reconfiguring my entire network just for this Pi at this point. But for right now let's use that as a last resort. I added those lines and still no luck. I am still getting the same error as before.

I set my wifi manual it worked one time I then used the raspi-config and didn't have a problem.

You may be trying to do both which is what happen to me the wpa over wrote my configure setting.

Return to “Raspberry Pi OS”
