Hi,
Has anyone tried the PI TV HAT with 1090dump or flightaware software yet??
Regards

Re: PI TV HAT
I don't believe anyone has figured out if it will support ADS-B yet.
There was some discussion of ADS-B in the main thread on the TV HAT -

I've got a couple of these I'll see if I can coax dump1090 to use the TV uHAT.derbysatellite wrote: ↑Wed Oct 31, 2018 11:56 amHi,

Re: PI TV HAT
I had a look at dump1090 source code. It will only work with a USB rtl-sdr device - there's no support for other types of radio. So that would need an extensive re-write to use the cxd2880 kernel driver.
There's also no datasheet for the cxd2880 tuner, the only thing we've got is the kernel driver that was written by Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corp. so we'd have to ask them to supply a datasheet (and that's probably only available when you place an order for 100,000 chips from them). The other place some info may be available is in the TVHeadEnd source code (since it works with the cxd2880 straight out of the box).
All of that makes hacking the cxd2880 into a much larger project than I've got the time to do.

Re: PI TV HAT
From what I have been able to ascertain on the earlier cxd2820 it doesn't look likely to be possible to do ADS-B with the Pi TV uHAT which uses the cxd2880.
If it is possible the Foundation might be able to take advantage of their partnership with Sony to put some effort into making ADS-B work, perhaps to boost global sales of the uHAT, theirs and Sony's revenues, but I would guess that's a long shot.

Re: PI TV HAT
Many thanks for your time looking into this.
Come on Raspberry, wouldn't of taken much research to see that the RTL2832U chip would of been the better choice
well for me anyway
Thanks for reading and replying

Re: PI TV HAT
For the purposes of receiving dvb transmissions it wouldn't have been the better chip, mainly as it would be taking up the one usb port on a Pi Zero. And why would we bother cloning an existing, easily available board that already exists? That makes no sense.derbysatellite wrote: ↑Thu Nov 01, 2018 11:08 pmCome on Raspberry, wouldn't of taken much research to see that the RTL2832U chip would of been the better choice

If you want sdr and can sacrifice a USB port then buy an rtl board
(And yes, I did see the smiley)
